...

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Bulldog Breaks

Bulldog Breaks Vol 2
Bulldog, 1991. Very Good
Released by Fog City Productions, in association with Luv N Haight, this LP's got a tight set of grooves that sound more like lost funk tracks than they do looped funky bits. The tracks are put together with a good feel to them, and with changes throughout that make the cuts work more like funk ... LP, Vinyl record album

Frank Sinatra

This Is Sinatra!
Capitol, Early 50s. Near Mint-
This Is Sinatra indeed – a wonderful collection of singles, and a near-lost album to the shifting sands of time! The record wasn't one of Frank's "album concepts" for Capitol, and has since been dismantled in the catalog – but for many in the 50s, this was one of THE Sinatra ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lalo Schifrin

Black Widow
CTI, 1976. Very Good
Funky 70s work from film score maestro Lalo Schifrin – served up with a bit of a disco twist, and plenty of the electric jazz funk elements that were showing up in his soundtracks at the time! Toshiko Akiyoshi really took off as a jazz musician in the 70s – already a great pianist known for her bop-like dexterity in the 50s, a compelling soloist and songwriter with her modern sound in the 60s, and a hell of a talent at the helm of a series of amazing big band records with reedman ... Ray Barretto

From the Beginning
Fania, 1971. Very Good- Gatefold
Ray's taking it back to the beginning on this one – getting a bit more spare and percussive, showing off a strong understanding of the history of the roots of the Afro-Cuban sound.
