One of the funkiest albums Sergio Mendes ever recorded – a monster of a record that's filled with enough dancefloor groovers to have had a big impact on the soul market in the US! There's still elements of the older Mendes modes – especially in the way the vocals float nicely through ... LP, Vinyl record album
A stunning live recording from Elis Regina – one of the last few records she cut during her short time on this planet – and one of the best as well! The album's got a jazzy fire that's missing from some of Regina's other material of the time – and Elis sings with a group that ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great little album by Elis – recorded for Elektra, but very much in the spirit of her classic work for Philips in the 70s. Like so many of those records, this one features arrangements and keyboards by Cesar Camargo Mariano – and the list of tracks is a stellar blend of work by some ... LP, Vinyl record album
A wonderful early album from Simone – a set that's filled with compelling sounds and styles that really mark her music as part of the Milton Nascimento generation! There's a slow-building and spacious sort of feel to the record – a mix of instrumentation that includes some jazz ... LP, Vinyl record album
Easily one of the greatest albums ever by Hermeto Pascoal – a masterpiece of free-thinking jazz that combines all of the best elements of his work! At one level, there's an experimental approach to instrumentation that really grabs the ears – but it's also wrapped around a key sense of ... LP, Vinyl record album
A beautiful album of jazzy vocal tracks with a definite bossa feel, recorded by the group O Quarteto – a harmony group whose style is very reminiscent of earlier Brazilian ones – like Os Cariocas and The Tamba Trio! The record's a sparkling batch of bossa tracks, produced with an ... LP, Vinyl record album
Fantastic 70s material by this unique Brazilian combo! The sound is perhaps a bit less funky than some of their other records, but the songwriting is excellent, and the production is top notch – in a way that opens up the voices and gives the record a lot more soul than usual. Filled with ... LP, Vinyl record album
A very unusual bit of bossa nova – and a record that seems to criss-cross a few different A&M Records modes of the 60s! At one level, the group's got a Brasil 66 feel – since they use a female vocal chorus on some cuts, breezing along with the grooves in a style that's definitely ... LP, Vinyl record album
Djavan is looking nice and young on the cover image – and the record's got a relatively youthful feel, too – that approach that made Djavan one of the most important talents to emerge from Brazil at the end of the 70s, and one of the few to follow a global path of his own! This album's ... LP, Vinyl record album
An excellent set of percussion and vocals from this enigmatic Brazilian talent – recorded in Paris, featuring overdubs that led Nana layer percussion over percussion, and play parts of his body and voice along with the drums. The set's got a really spiritual quality – with much more ... LP, Vinyl record album
A groovy blend of bossa themes and some of the lighter pop treatments that Bonfa often received – not really a problem for us, as the approach always filled out his sound a bit more, and made for some catchy tunes with a very groovy style! Tracks include "Bahia Soul", "Dois ... LP, Vinyl record album
