A great Elmer Bernstein score for this creepy psycho drama! At the best times, the score has the jazzy overtones of Walk On The Wild Side or Man With The Golden Arm – serious and soundtracky to be sure, but with some great work in a drama jazz style that was always Bernstein's best calling card in the picture business. And despite the darkness of the plot, there's actually some nice groovy numbers that have a real 60s go go feel to them – with plenty of swinging horns, and some driving and lively rhythms! Titles include "Birdito", "Party In The Ward", "The Cage", "Seclusion", "Electrotherapy" and "Black Straight-Jacket".  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Although Manos Hadjidakis' soundtrack work of the 60s is mostly in the Greek-sounding mode, this one features him hitting a bit of a western soundtrack feel – to back a drama starring Terence Stamp, Ricardo Montalban, and Karl Malden. About half the tracks are instrumentals with an ... LP, Vinyl record album

Although the cover of this one makes it look like a saucy European film – as does the tag line, which reads "The Motion Picture for people over 18!" – most of the record's in kind of a dreamy period mode, with sweeping orchestrations that are a bit snoozy. Hard to believe, ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of the richest 60s moments from composer Hugo Montenegro – a soundtrack that's penned with a mix of string styles that are a nice bridge between the differing instrumental styles that Hugo would use in the 50s and the 60s! Some of the numbers showcase Montenegro's strong ability to score ... LP, Vinyl record album

Swirling strings galore – but served up with just the right mix of sex and drama to fit the spirit of this second Airport film! One of the strangest chapters in the history of the breakbeat! When this weird soundtrack to a religious film starring Pat Boone came out, who'd have thought that it would become one of the most sought-after soundtracks for hip hoppers. Here's a strange one – the 1964 soundtrack for a film starring Robert Mitchum, credited to Lionel Bart, but actually featuring a fair bit of work by John Barry – who wrote a few tracks, and seems to handle the overall arrangements and conducting.
