Autumn Leaves

LP (Item 977771) Impulse (Japan), Early 60s — Condition: Very Good

An unusual Japanese-only album – one that brings together trio tracks by McCoy Tyner from the early Impulse years – including material that appeared on the albums Reaching Fourth and Nights Of Ballads & Blues! Titles include "Goodbye", "Round Midnight", "Night In Tunisia", "Five Spot After Dark", "Old Devil Moon", "Days Of Wine & Roses", and "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(60s pressing, in a flipback cover, which has some tape on the back. Front looks nice.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Ben Webster

See You At The Fair
Impulse, 1964. Very Good Gatefold
A great little album from Ben Webster – perhaps not his most sophisticated, jazz-wise, but done up in a cool cover that has him standing in front of the steel globe at the 1964 World's Fair in New York. The music on the disc has a similar optimistic approach – as Ben solos lightly over ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lionel Hampton

You Better Know It !!!
Impulse, 1964. Very Good+ Gatefold
A warm and wonderful 60s session from Lionel Hampton – recorded in a personal and intimate way, one that even surpasses his great small combo sides of the 50s! There's a relaxed feel here that you don't always get with Hamp – a gently grooving quality that we really like a lot, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bobbi Humphrey

Freestyle
Epic, 1978. Sealed
Some of Bobbi Humphrey's greatest work of the post-Blue Note years – an album that's filled with soulful fusion tunes throughout, all with a great focus on her funky flute! Bobbi also sings a bit on the set, but in a way that's pretty darn great – wonderfully sweet at times, with a bit ... LP, Vinyl record album

Albert Ayler

Bells
ESP, 1965. Sealed
A seminal live set by a young Albert Ayler – an unusual one-sided record that featured only 20 minutes of music, performed with an intensity that hardly leaves room for complaints about the shortness of the album! The single track "Bells" was performed at Town Hall by Ayler with a ... LP, Vinyl record album

George Benson

In Flight
Warner, 1977. Very Good Gatefold
Benson plays his guitar and also sings on some of these tracks, joined by Phil Upchurch on rhythm guitar, Ronnie Foster on electric piano & mini-moog, Jorge Dalto on clavinet & acoustic piano, Stanley Banks on bass, Harvey Mason on drums and Ralph MacDonald on percussion. Quartette Tres Bien

Spring Into Spring
Decca, Mid 60s. Sealed
An obscure one from the Quartette Tres Bien – one of their first new albums for the Decca label, and a lyrically beautiful set of piano and percussion tracks with a heck of a lot of soul! The approach is similar to that used on many of the group's other ones from the time – piano trio ... LP, Vinyl record album
Contemporary, 1960. Near Mint-
Classic hardbop from the west coast – a set of live recordings done at the Black Hawk jazz club in San Francisco at the end of the 50s, featuring Shelly Manne at the head of a group that includes the great Joe Gordon on trumpet! Tracks are longer, livelier, and have a lot more solo room and ... LP, Vinyl record album

CBS Jazz All Stars

Montreux Summit Vol 2
Columbia, 1977. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
A wonderful follow-up to the first Montreux Summit album – and like that classic, a groundbreaking assemblage of some of the best jazz musicians of the 70s! The format here is slightly different – with more of a focus on smaller groupings of musicians, but still with a really fresh ear ... LP, Vinyl record album

Count Basie

Basie In Sweden
Roulette, 1962. Near Mint-
One of the most hard-hitting Count Basie albums from the Roulette Records years – and that's saying a lot, given the power of Basie at the time! The set was recorded in Sweden, with a kind of triple-time energy that really has the whole thing burning right from the start – as the group' ... LP, Vinyl record album

New Birth

Blind Baby
Buddah, 1975. Sealed
A classic album by this righteous soul collective – and one that shows them taking a strong step away from their work at RCA with Harvey Fuqua. This one has the group (ever-enormous as always!) absorbing some of the other elements of modern soul that were floating around at the time – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Booker T & The MGs

Hip Hug-Her
Stax, 1967. Very Good+
Booker T's definitely getting a bit funky with this one – stepping off with the incredible title cut, a tune which really complicates the groove from the earlier years! The sound is still solid Memphis soul, with a raw instrumental vibe – but the grooves are even better than before, ... LP, Vinyl record album
