Invisible Man – An Orchestral Tribute To Dr Dre

CD (Item 975165) Tru Thoughts (UK), 2017 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

✈

An orchestral homage to Dr Dre spearheaded by Brooklyn's Sylvester Onyejiaka, aka Sly5thAve – fleshing out hooks and melodies from throughout Dre's career, from classic singles to deep cuts, into large scale jazzy soul – with a stellar roster of guests including Mark De Clive-Lowe, DJ Center, Quantic, Jimetta Rose and more! It's pretty diverse, capturing timeless Cali funk & soul backdrops as well as slightly more stripped down live band hip hop-style versions, and mostly, but not entirely instrumentals. One exception is "Let Me Ride" with singer Jimetta Rose, who delivers some great, spontaneously emotional vocals – but the whole set is excellent – and titles includes "Shiznit" with Jessie Fisher, "California", "Drelude For Woo" feat Mark De Clive-Lowe, "No Diggity" feat Sydney Driver, "The Jam" feat Matthias Loescher, "Who Am I" feat Paul Wilson, "Still Dre", "My Name Is" feat Robert Searight, "Guilty Conscience", "Nuthin' But A G Thang" feat Brad Allen Williams, "The Edge" feat Quantic, "Next Episode", "Peace" and more.  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

No side-stepping these grooves – as they're right, tight, and very much on the money – work that shows a real evolution in the sound of The Bamboos, and one that takes them strongly into deep soul territory! These guys have always had a great ear for classic funk, but this time around ... CD

Life Shines EP
Hi Five (Germany), 2011. Used
A great German combo, and one with almost as much jazz as funk in the mix – quite a nice change from the usual group of this nature! There's a warm glow to the record right from the start – a vibe that comes from the tight trumpet lines of Michael Voss, who also sings a bit – and ... CD

Rumble N Struggle
RD Records (Japan), 2001. Used
One of the funkiest groups of the past decade – and a hell of a great little album, right down to the JBs-styled cover art! Osaka Monaurail have it going on all fronts – tight drums, economical bass, riffing guitars, and the kind of horn work that we haven't heard since Fred Wesley ... CD

Budos Band
Daptone, 2005. Used

Daptone, 1990s/Early 2000s. Used
