Harriet Brown — Mall Of Fortune ... LP 11.99

A really great second set from Harriet Brown – one of those "recorded at home" soul records that may well set the tone for a generation to come! Brown's got this always-skittish, almost-nervous approach to his music – one that often echoes the lyrics of the tunes, and their openly personal sense of anxiety – this pent-up, wrapped-up mode that always feels like it's going to explode – and which maybe feels even more so because Brown put the whole project together himself, away from any companionship in the studio. Apart from two guest vocal appearances, the whole thing is Harriet's own – beautifully so – with titles that include "Retail Therapy", "Shower Up Saddle Up", "Window Shopping", "Holy Place", "Method", "Driver's Seat", and "Bag Away".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Amy Winehouse

Back To Black
Universal, 2006. Used
An incredible album from Amy Winehouse – even way better than her fantastic debut! Although a contemporary soul album, this one's steeped in tradition – soul styles that run the gamut from Detroit down to Kingston, and which are carried off here with a rougher, sharper-edged sound than ... CD

Smoke City

Heroes Of Nature
Jive, 2001. Used
A really beautiful album from Smoke City – one of their most Brazilian-tinged efforts yet, and a sunny blend of London soul with the warmth of the Rio scene. The group, if anything, have only gotten gentler over the years – and this album's a sweet mix of light vocals, acoustic guitar, ... CD

Frank McComb

Living Room
Boobeescoot, 2012. Used
A brilliant setting for the soulful Frank McComb – a stretched out live performance that unlocks a whole new side of Frank's talents, and makes us love him even more than before! The tunes are very laidback – and McComb accompanies himself on Fender Rhodes and acoustic piano with an ... CD

Jose James

No Beginning No End
Blue Note, 2013. Used
A great new chapter in the career of Jose James – and a record that really seems to take his already-amazing vocals to a whole new level! In a relatively short career, Jose's already been turning a lot of heads with his work on other projects, his jazz-based recordings, and his debut for ... CD

Invisible Man
For Life (Japan), 1994/1996. Used
One of the strongest releases by this Japanese acid jazz combo, but unfortunately, also one of their shortest! The album's got 3 very different mixes of their cool track "Invisible Man", all with a sound that's varied from the others. Plus, there's two great Braziliany tracks – ... CD

Stan Getz

Nobody Else But Me
Verve, 1964. Used
One of the greatest Stan Getz albums ever – even though it wasn't issued until the 90s! The set's a rare unreleased session from 1964 – recorded by Getz with a fresh, free-thinking approach – but abandoned by Verve because they were making so much money with Stan's bossa nova ... CD
Island, 1970s. Used
While we're not big on career retrospective best of's, especially artists like Marley, whose been collected over & over, this is actually a respectable set, and the vinyl's pretty darn hard to get ahold of anymore. Includes tons of classics, like "Get Up Stand Up", "Exodus", ... CD
