An amazing leap forward for the incredible Walter Wanderley – a record that has him mixing his earlier bossa groove with the wider vision of late 60s A&M/CTI – supported by an amazing cast of American and Brazilian artists! The vibe is wonderful from the very first note – a ... LP, Vinyl record album
The first (and maybe only) American release by one of the greatest Brazilian singer/songwriters of the sixties – and a record that's quite different than any Sergio Mendes work of the time, despite Sergio's name in the title! The vibe is like Lobo's best of Brazil from the late 60s – a ... LP, Vinyl record album
A rare early session from Sergio Mendes – one that was recorded in New York, during a pre-66 visit by his core trio – and augmented with guest horn work from Art Farmer, Phil Woods, and Hubert Laws! Antonio Carlos Jobim plays a bit of guitar on the album, and the set's a straighter set ... LP, Vinyl record album
The first in the Banda Veneno series by Brazilian maestro Erlon Chaves – and the best! Erlon's at the height of his funky powers here – coming up with some mad groovers that borrow a lot of influences from American and European funk of the time, and turn it towards some of the weirder ... One of Astrud Gilberto's greatest albums – and quite possibly our personal favorite! The record features beautifully understated arrangements by Joao Donato, Don Sebesky, and Claus Ogerman – and the instrumentation is a haunting mix of bossa rhythms with darker orchestrations that ... Live set recorded in 1983, with large arrangements by Wagner Tiso that feature a string section behind a smaller rock group that includes Tiso, Robertinho Silva, and Helio Delmiro. Milton plays guitar, and his voice is still in fine form. Gal Costa sings a tiny bit – and the record includes ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great little fusion set from Airto – recorded in a mode that's a great bridge between his acoustic roots and some of his smoother albums in years to come! The sound has some key electric elements here – bits of bass, guitar, and keyboards – but there's still a strongly acoustic ... LP, Vinyl record album
A beautiful little record, with a mix of female vocals, acoustic guitar, and jazzier elements – sometimes a bit wild and avant, and with some nice use of vibes too! The record's got this cool style that's kind of a blend of the more experimental jazz singers of the 70s – ala Sheila ... LP, Vinyl record album
Very groovy Brazilian work – in a similar vein to Eydie's Blame It On the Bossa Nova LP! Stevie & Eydie recorded this set with bossa guitarist Luiz Bonfa, and Deodato did the arrangements – and they both really bring in a beautiful sound to the set that's quite unlike other ...
