Barefoot In The Park

LP (Item 9628) Dot, Late 60s — Condition: Near Mint-
A work of true genius – and one of Hefti's most amazing soundtracks ever! Barefoot In The Park was written shortly before The Odd Couple – also for a Neal Simon film – and it's got a similar style of grooving to that more famous soundtrack, with two melodies working their way in together rhythmically, dancing around almost in counterpoint, but instead opening up the tunes in a really wild way. The main theme is tremendous – played in a number of versions, including one with some super-cool electric harpsichord – and even one number with vocals is pretty darn incredible. We love this one – and although short, it's a treasure throughout! Titles include "Barefoot In The Park", "Blues For Paul", "New Home Up A Stairs", "Nut On The Roof", and "Six Flights Up".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

United Artists, 1965. Near Mint-
A swinging sex comedy score from the legendary Neal Hefti – not as well-known as some of his big 60s hits, but a wonderfully groovy record throughout! The film itself is a pretty silly farce – and Hefti definitely matches that action in his music – by mixing up jazzy, upbeat ... LP, Vinyl record album

Neal Hefti

Synanon
Liberty, 1965. Near Mint-
A really wonderful soundtrack, for a very gripping film! Synanon, for those not in the know, was a famous west coast drug treatment center in the 60s – well known for its work with musicians like Joe Pass, Art Pepper, and others. The hospital is the setting for this dramatic film that ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1966. Very Good-
A great little album – filled with groovy numbers that recall all the charm of the Batman TV show! Hefti composed the original theme of "Batman", and although Nelson Riddle did the real soundtrack, Hefti does an excellent job here of capturing the spirit, possibly more so than on ... Sebastian
Dot, 1968. Sealed
A real rarity from Jerry Goldsmith – groovy tunes penned for a late 60s film about an Oxford professor who's also a spy for the British Secret Service! Goldmith's music is a bit less serious than usual at points – still scored with the deep care and sensitivity we've come to love in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Man With The Golden Arm – Original Soundtrack
Decca, 1955. Very Good+
One of the greatest jazz soundtracks of all time! Elmer Bernstein wrote the score to Otto Preminger's chilling film version of Nelson Algren's book The Man With The Golden Arm – a sad tale of jazz, gambling, and heroin addiction on the streets of Chicago (not far from Dusty Groove, in fact!) ... Brian May

Road Warrior
Varese, 1982. Near Mint-
Brian May's classic score to the first Road Warrior film – nicely lean compared to overblown modes to follow. No Tina Turner – but lots of great guitar work and orchestrations! LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, 1986. Very Good+
Iconic soundtrack to the 80s blockbuster, including "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins, "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin, and the "Top Gun Anthem" by Harold Faltermeyer and Steve Stevens. LP, Vinyl record album

Roy Budd

Wild Geese
A&M, 1978. Very Good+
Tightly-strung score for this forgotten war flick starring Roger Moore, Richard Burton, and Richard Harris. Budd does a nice job with the orchestra on this one, and most of the themes have a snappy militaristic style, in the vein of The Magnificent Seven or The Great Escape. Not as many jazzy ...
