Festa De Vaquejada

LP (Item 961152) Okeh (Brazil), 1970 — Condition: Near Mint-

(Cover has some ringwear, partially unglued bottom seam, and a bit of pen on back.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Dorival Caymmi

Eu Nao Tenho Onde Morar
Odeon (Brazil), 1960. Very Good+
Magical early work from Dorival Caymmi – and the kind of record that easily shows why he was such a huge influence on Brazilian music! The album bubbles along with a lively mix of samba and larger orchestrations – Caymmi's wonderful vocals and songs filling up the set with a sense of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Toquinho & Vinicius De Moraes

Sao Demais Os Perigos Desta Vida
RGE (Brazil), 1972. Very Good+
A gentle 70s classic from the team of Toquinho and Vinicius De Morais – recorded with a slow-building sound that's really great! There's a bit of extra backing at points, but never used too much – and some parts of the record are spare enough to only feature the voice of Vinicius ... LP, Vinyl record album

Elza Soares & Miltinho

Elza Miltinho E Samba
Odeon (Brazil), 1967. Very Good+
The first pairing of Elza Soares and Miltinho is a delight throughout – a set that follows on the Brazilian duet style of the time, but seems to handle things with even more charm and flair throughout – never just forcing the two singers together in the company of a tune, but really ... Geraldo Vespar

New Breeze From Brazil
Capitol, 1968. Near Mint-
Mellow bossa guitar – in the tradition of Bonfa or Gilberto, but lacking the same sort of soul. Not bad, but kind of a "cash in on the big names" release by Capitol – although the record was originally recorded in Brazil, so it's at least got some sort of cred. Titles ... LP, Vinyl record album

Elis Regina

Elis Regina in London
Philips (Brazil), 1969. Very Good+
Elis Regina hits the London scene of the late 60s – with amazing results that make the album one of her best from the early years! The style here is still quite bossa-oriented, but backings are done by Peter Knight – who'd worked with Scott Walker and some of the other hip British ... LP, Vinyl record album

Meireles E Sua Orquestra

Brasilian Explosion
EMI (Brazil), 1973. Near Mint-
A classic bit of lost funky electric piano from Brazil! The album has a similar feel to Deodato's early 70's work, and includes a killer electric version of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" that's very similar to Deodato's "2001" – soaring along on a great funky groove, with ... LP, Vinyl record album

Grupo Controle Digital

A Festa E Nossa
Phoenix Spink (Brazil), 1988. Near Mint-
A rare Brazilian album from the 80s, but one that's quite different than you might expect – as these guys have a clear love of keyboards that resonate with some of the bigger electro pop acts of the UK and European scene of the time! The group's really just a duo – Billy Jaguar and Gel ... LP, Vinyl record album

Betwixt & Between
A&M, 1969. Very Good+ Gatefold
A great album of smooth jazzy numbers recorded for CTI – with a nice luster that actually makes the album a lot more compelling than some of JJ and Kai's other work together. The album features some great big band arrangements of strong material, including Edu Lobo's "Casa Forte" ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great 70s album by Roland Kirk – one that features him working on a lot of short tracks, in a pretty crazy style! Contemporary, 1957. Good
One of Art Pepper's classic recordings, in which he plays with a spare quartet backing by Miles Davis' rhythm section at the time – Paul Chambers, Red Garland, and Philly Joe Jones.
