Hipper than usual for a violin jazz album – a nice open-ended jam session – with work by Stuff Smith, Stephane Grappelli, Sven Asmussen, and Jean-Luc Ponty – over a rhythm section with Kenny Drew on piano, Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen on bass, and Alex Riel on drums.  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Ben Webster & Don Byas

Ben Webster Meets Don Byas
MPS (Germany), 1968. Used
A rare meeting of these two American giants of the tenor sax – brought together at the end of the 60s in Europe, both recording late in their careers, but with a laidback and open approach that's really wonderful! The format here is quite loose – a bit like some of the late hours, ... CD

Monty Alexander

Here Comes The Sun
MPS (Germany), 1971. Used
Beautiful sounds from pianist Monty Alexander – and a record that really has him finding his own groove! Monty had recorded often in the 60s, and usually mixed his Caribbean roots with a bit of American soul jazz – but it really took the MPS label to help him find a spot to set himself ... CD
MPS (Japan), 1968. Used
The first of a series of great "private" recordings that Oscar Peterson did for the MPS label in the late 60s – sessions done at the home of label owner Hans Georg Brunner Schwer, in a laidback and easygoing style that's different than some of his American work of the time! The ... CD
Blue Note, 1967. Used
As pure a distillation of McCoy Tyner's lyrical vision as one could ever hope for – a brilliant early standout session for the pianist as a leader! McCoy is backed up here by the energetic drumming of Elvin Jones – with whom he shares a natural empathy from their many years together ... CD

Idris Ackamoor/The Pyramids

Music Of Idris Ackamoor 1971 to 2004

A treasure trove of spiritual jazz from saxophonist Idris Ackamoor – featuring his famous 70s recordings with The Pyramids, solo material, and even some previously unissued titles! The bulk of the collection comes from The Pyramids' albums Birth Speed Merging, Lalibela, and King Of Kings ... CD
Motown, 1973. Used
A really mixed bag of grooves from the Crusaders – but still an album that's quite tasty if you dig their work on the Chisa label! The disc appears to be a greatest hits collection – with the "best" in the title – but it's more a summation of the styles they'd been ... CD

Blue Note, 1962. Used
A wicked session by Grant Green – one that's very different than any of his other Blue Note records! Here, Grant's going for a "Latin bit" – adding in a trio of percussionists to spice up the groove with a bit of bossa rhythms, and some harder jamming styles that feel a lot ... CD

Scolohofo (John Scofield)

Oh!
Blue Note, 2003. Used
An all-star group – featuring John SCOfield, Joe LOvano, Dave HOlland, and Al FOster, hence the unusual name of the ensemble – all grooving in an angular mode that recalls the current Blue Note sound at its freshest. Lovano's edgey tenor and soprano work really make the session hold ... CD
Sony, 1970. Used 2 CDs
Four sides of noisy, funky, stretched-out playing from Miles Davis – recorded at the Fillmore West, but with an intensity that matches some of Miles' crazy electric recordings from Japan during the early 70s! The music is a powerful blast of music that stretches out over the double-length ... CD
