Caterina Valente Live

LP (Item 952721) Decca (Germany), 1969 — Condition: Near Mint-

Musical direction by Horst Jankowski.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Hi Fi Nightingale
Decca, Mid 50s. Near Mint-
Surprisingly great early work from Caterina Valente – some of her earliest recordings compiled together, all with a great little sense of zing and swing that we didn't remember! Pete Kelly's Blues
Decca, 1955. Very Good-
A selection of tunes from the film Pete Kelly's Blues – a 20s tale of jazz and gangsters that starred and was directed by Jack "Dragnet" Webb! Given the setting of the film, the tunes often have a more traditional jazz bent to them – with backing from the orchestra of Harold ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miss Wonderful
Decca, 1956. Very Good
A full, rich set of vocal tunes from Peggy Lee – all done in a style that's quite different than her later work at Capitol Records, but still mighty darn nice! Sy Oliver handled the arrangements for the record – and he brings in a blend of strings and jazz that really creates a lot of ... LP, Vinyl record album

By Special Request
Decca, 1955. Very Good
A cool session for Decca that has Carmen's vocals flowing out wonderfully amidst some very haunting backings! Decca, 1957. Very Good+
Sublime vocals from Marcy Lutes – a singer we really don't know at all, but one who really sparkles on this late 50s session for Decca! Part of the charm of the record is the arrangements – handled by Gil Evans, Ralph Burns, and Marion Evans – often with a modern jazz ... LP, Vinyl record album
