Centro Acapulco/Acapulco Center

7-inch (Item 952604) Centro Acapulco Center (Mexico), Early 80s — Condition: Near Mint-
(pic cover)

...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Andre Williams

Stroke/Cadillac Jack
Chess/Blue Chip, Late 60s/1970s. Near Mint-
Funky late 60s work from the great Andre Williams – reissued here on a Chess Blue Chip pressing from the 70s! "The Stroke" is one of Andre's greatest numbers – a slapping funky groover with twangy guitar over bass over drums, all supporting a groove that's got Andre talking ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Atco, Late 60s. Very Good+
Beautiful soul from George Clinton! Recorded years before the band's first album, but with a rich heavy sound that mixes the Detroit harmony tradition with fuzzier tripped-out soul arrangements – for a great sound that still sounds really beautiful today. Excellent harmony parts, too! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Chess, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
2 fantastic tracks from Etta James – both of them raw and bluesy, but also sophisticatedly soulful! "At Last" is one of her all-time greats, a sweetly done number that always breaks our heart, set to impeccable arrangements that show that Etta can move from the rough R&B crowd ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
RCA, 1972. Near Mint-
As might be expected, "Luther" is Jimmy's follow-up to his classic funky "Troglodyte". The track's another groover about a caveman, and it's got the same sort of silly funky groove – with lots of nice heavy guitars! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Chess, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Wonderful Chicago soul from The Dells! "There Is" is a strident Charles Stepney track, with insane production, and a hook that just won't quit! "O-O, I Love You" is much more in their older harmony style, and has a very classic group sound! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Blue Mitchell

HNIC (parts 1 & 2)
Blue Note, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Over the top funky funky funky! This is one of those great little groovers that Blue Mitchell cut with Monk Higgins – and it's got some incredibly hard arrangements from Monk in the background, vamping and jumping all around, while Blue blows a hard soulful trumpet over the top! Great stuff ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Newmiss, Early 70s. Near Mint-
Sublime stuff! "I Don't Know" is a great deep soul harmony cut – rolling into a midtempo groove from the intro like a rare Stax gem, with some great guitar and organ riffing along with the vocals, which are sung in a mode that's raspy and sweet at the same time! "Look What ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

James Brown & The New JBs

Have A Happy Day/Love Me Tender
Polydor, 1977. Near Mint-
An overlooked mellow soul cut from James – and very nice! "Have A Happy Day" is a great little track written by Charle Sherrell, who we think is singing backup vocals on the cut – and the track's got a sound that's a bit smooth, but which builds in a rougher way, thanks to ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Bobby Moore & The Rhythm Aces

Checker, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
