LP (Item 951843) Audiophile, 1985 — Condition: Sealed

...

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Johnny Hartman

This One's For Tedi
Audiophile, 1980. Near Mint-
One of the last albums that Johnny Hartman recorded in his all-too-short career – and a relatively laidback session that really shows his talents with a ballad! All tunes here have that magnificent Hartman vocal approach firmly in place – that deep-toned, mellifluous style that really ... LP, Vinyl record album

Julie London

Julie Is Her Name
Liberty, Late 50s. Very Good-
A landmark album in 50s vocal jazz – spare, moody, and evocative tunes from Julie London – sung in a stripped-down setting that few other singers would dare at the time! The sound of the set is as sexy as the cover – intimate, personal, and breathily sung in a mode that comes ... LP, Vinyl record album

Julie London

About The Blues
Liberty, Late 50s. Very Good-
Hip early work from Julie London – with full jazz orchestra backing by Russ Garcia, whose soundscapes are perfect for that dreamy style of singing she was using at the time – a blend of the sublime and sad, floating along with almost effortless ease, but hiding a huge wellspring of ... Sarah Vaughan

After Hours (Columbia)
Columbia, Early 50s. Very Good-
The album that really put Sarah Vaughan on the map – a killer set that really showed how sultry jazz vocals could sound in the postwar years – never overtone, nor torchy-cliched – but right on the money, with a sense of grace and poise that few others can match – even after ... Dakota Staton

Time To Swing
Capitol, 1959. Very Good-
It's time to swing, but with a classy sound throughout – very much the best mix of modes Dakota Staton brought to her key early years at Capitol Records! Backings are by Sid Feller, and are pretty darn jazzy throughout – more so than some of Sid's other work of the time – a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jeri Southern

You Better Go Now
Decca, Early 50s. Very Good-
An early album that compiles material that Jeri Southern recorded in her first few years for Decca Records – tunes done in the dreamy, romantic style that was one of Southern's key calling cards in the 50s! The style is never too sleepy, nor too commercial – and instead, Jeri's got a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Julie London

Julie London at Home
Liberty, 1960. Very Good-
One of Julie London's strongest overall albums – a great session that features small group backings with a warm and intimate feel! There's less of the languid sadness of some of Julie's other records, and more of the dreamy floating style of singers like Chris Connor or June Christy on this ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chris Connor

Portrait Of Chris
Atlantic, 1960. Sealed
A very moody album from Chris Connor – one that features arrangements by Ronnie Ball and Jimmy Jones, on a somber set of songs that makes the album one of Chris' darkest for Atlantic! Most of the tunes are in small group settings – a bit tightly arranged, but in a good way that gives ... LP, Vinyl record album
