LP, Vinyl record album

Harry Lubin did the soundtrack for this classic sci-fi digest TV show, and Decca released the whole thing in a beautiful colored foil cover, with a picture of the Milky Way raidiating colorful rays over a shiny space set! The bulk of the tracks are orchestral, but they've got a haunting quality that's a great example of the kind of eerie suspense and space themes you can get when you arrange a string section with a lot of atonal sounds! Titles include "Weird", "Paris", "Island Off Spain", "Fear", and "Jungle Aire". (Original mono pressing with deep groove, in the original foil cover. Cover has some wear, some seam splitting, and a few stains.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Decca, Mid 50s. Sealed
A mostly dramatic score to this mid 50s film that starred Alan Ladd & Sophia Loren – written by Friedhofer, and peformed here by Lionel Newman and the 20th Century Fox Orchestra. Jubilee, Late 60s. Very Good+
One of the nicest albums cut by funky flute player Moe Koffman – kind of a batch of groovy 60s instrumentals, but with more of a soul tinge than you'd expect by the cover. The record features nice originals by Koffman called "James Brown's Bag" and "Funky Monkey" – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Impulse, 1966. Near Mint- Gatefold
Very groovy stuff! Although the bulk of the material on this album is "pops meet jazz", in the hands of Oliver Nelson, it's transformed into something wonderful – with just the right blend of jazz to keep things lively. The arrangements have a nice off-kilter sound that works well ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fantasy, 1960. Very Good
1960 nightclub recordings from Lenny Bruce – done at a time when he was really opening up stylistically, and taking on a host of themes that really tell a tale of the times! The work here is plenty edgey – lots of sharp turns, offbeat ideas, and that sharp wit that makes Bruce one of ... LP, Vinyl record album
