❔
A groovy soundtrack to this hip surf film directed by Bruce Brown – filled with great little instrumentals that go way past the obvious! Brown had previously used jazz players for some of his films – including Bud Shank, who cut some great stuff for earlier soundtracks – but this set's got him working with The Sandals, a younger guitar-driven group with a cool style of scoring – partly surf instrumentals, but partly mod and groovy too! The Sandals move way past the stock surf riffs of chart surf groups – and they really do a great job with the changing moods and scenes of the film – fitting the many scenes of surfing on the screen. Titles include "Jet Black", "TR 6", "Scrambler", "6 Pak", "Driftin", "Good Greeves", and "Decoy".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Real Gone reissue on ultraviolet colored vinyl – still sealed with hype sticker.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Prudence & The Pill
20th Century, 1968. Sealed
A strange little film from the late 60s – a brit comedy starring Deborah Kerr and David Niven, in kind of a tender and silly comedy about the early years of birth control. About half the soundtrack's kind of orchestral and romantic (surprisingly), but the other half is nice and groovy – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ennio Morricone

Le Professionnel
General Music (France), 1981. Near Mint- Gatefold
A great little Morricone soundtrack – later than most of the classic work, but done for a French thriller that starred Jean-Paul Belmondo, with some great spare compositions that have slight romantic French soundtrack touches! There's some great numbers that feature Morricone's style of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tony Bruno

Hell's Angels '69
Capitol, 1969. Sealed Gatefold
An excellent biker soundtrack – very different than the usual bag! For this one, Tony Bruno has come up with some great instrumentals – many of them jazzier than you'd think, and a few with some nice funky Capitol instrumental touches – not so much studio fuzz guitar, as they are ... One of the hippest Italian soundtracks of the 60s – and a motherlode of tracks by the great Piero Piccioni! Mainstream, Mid 60s. Very Good+
A wonderful soundtrack from the great Quincy Jones – one that's maybe not as well-known as his albums for Mercury at the time, but which is maybe even groovier! There's loads of great elements going on in the music – a bit of whistling from Toots Thielemans at times, some wordless ... LP, Vinyl record album

Swingers unite! Quincy Jones did the score for this very strange film about two couples who decided to freak out their marriages a bit. One of the few albums as an artist from the great Nick De Caro – one of the hipper arrangers of the 60s, best known for his collaborations with Claudine Longet on A&M! Superfly TNT
Buddah, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
Some nice heavy Afro-funk grooves, courtesy of Osibisa, for this follow-up score to the original Superfly!
