Version Excursion – Soul, Funk & Jazz Covers Of Quality & Distinction

LP (Item 947370) Harmless (UK), Late 60s/1970s — Condition: Very Good+
2LP

A pretty cool little set – featuring funky versions of familiar songs! The album follows nicely in the tradition of some of the hipper jazz funk sets of the past few years – especially the always-great Blue Juice series – and it digs through gems of the late 60s and early 70s to come up with some of the tastiest cover versions you could ever hope to find! Some of these have certainly been reissued before, and others are classics you'll know immediately – but the overall packaging job and music style is great, and the set's a very entertaining listen all the way through. Titles include "If There's A Hell Below" by Lou Donaldson, "Hot Pants - I'm Coming I'm Coming" by St Vincent Latinaires, "Give It Up Or Turn It Loose" by Dick Hyman, "There Was A Time" by Jerry O, "For What It's Worth" by The Staple Singers, "Ain't No Sunshine" by Gregory James Edition, "Light My Fire" by Brian Auger & Julie Driscoll, "Pastime Paradise" by Ray Barretto, and "Walk On By" by Isaac Hayes.  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
