Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Gene Shaw

Break Through
Argo/Dusty Groove, 1962. Used
An amazing record – bold, proud, and soulful – a set that we'd easily rank with any classic early 60s session on Blue Note – and for good reason too! This rare date is the debut as a leader for trumpeter Gene Shaw – also known as Clarence Shaw in an earlier history of work ... CD
Baystate (Japan), 1978. Used
One of the only 70s sessions cut as a leader by pianist Art Matthews – and sweet little set that's overflowing with soul! The tracks are long and freely flowing – somewhat righteous, but never too far out – and mostly in a style that's inspired by McCoy Tyner, but which also ... CD

Profile

Sands Of Time
Encounter/P-Vine (Japan), 1973. Used
A very cool album of groovy funky fusion recorded for the rare Encounter label! The sound is spacey and mellow – with a style that's somewhere in between CTI/Kudu jazz, and harder Prestige funkiness. The roster includes Butchman Bateman and the inimitable Bernard Pretty Purdie on drums ... CD

Roy Ayers

Stoned Soul Picnic
Atlantic (Japan), 1968. Used
An early album as a leader from the great Roy Ayers – a set that captures the vibes man at a time when he'd been working on the west coast soul jazz scene, and was stepping into even greater fame in the group of Herbie Mann! Yet this set is definitely Roy's own – kind of an ... CD

Don Pullen

Montreux Concert
Atlantic (Japan), 1978. Used
One of Don Pullen's best-known albums, and for good reason too – a well-recorded document of a Montreux performance that helped put Don's piano talents in the spotlight for the rest of the 70s! The record's got a sense of freedom that's quite unusual for Atlantic Records at the time – ... CD
CBS, 1974. Used
Spiritual, soulful, and oh, so beautiful! This record captures Earth Wind & Fire at a perfect transition moment – when they've still got some of their avant jazz roots, but are leaning towards the smooth soulful funk sound that put them on the charts a few years later. The whole thing's ... CD
BBE (UK), Late 70s. Used
It's like a dream come true – 13 previously unissued recordings by Roy Ayers, all from the height of his glory years on Polydor! Roy's work from this time is some of our favorite ever – a burning blend of jazz, soul, and funk – handled with impeccable charm, and a level of soul ... CD

Jazztronik

Numero Uno
Flower (Japan), 2002. Used
A warm and beautiful set of grooves from Jazztronik – one of our favorite Japanese groups of the past few years, and clearly heirs to the mid 90s sound of groups like Spiritual Vibes and Silent Poets! Like those other groups, Jazztronik have an amazing flair for mixing together warm jazzy ... CD
