Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Stanley Clarke

Children Of Forever
Polydor, 1973. Used
Quite possibly the hippest album that Stanley Clarke ever cut – a stretched-out soulful batch of jazz-tinged tracks – very much in the same spirit as the more righteous soul jazz underground of the time! In a way, the record would be much more at home on a label like Strata East than ... CD

Miles Davis

Bitches Brew
Columbia, 1969. Used 2 CDs
One of the few cases in jazz where an oft-played classic still resonates with power! The record itself is a key cap to Miles Davis' already-groundbreaking years of the 60s – a bold step forward, not just for his nascent electric sound, but also for jazz in general – and the benchmark ... CD

Benny Bailey

Mirrors
Freedom/Rearward (Italy), 1971. Used
An excellent early 70s set from Benny Bailey – originally issued on Freedom, but recorded by Gigi Campi, with arrangements by Francy Boland – and very much in the mode of work at the time on MPS. The session features Bailey as the lead soloist amidst bandmates from the Clarke-Boland ... CD
Columbia, 1970. Used 2CDs
Four sides of long improvised grooves from Miles Davis – a set that's quite similar to the classic studio album Bitches Brew, but which captures the sound in more open live setting! Each track on each side is named "Wednesday Miles", "Thursday Miles", and so on – ... CD
Milestone/Prestige, 1961. Used
Two stormers from one of the greatest alto talents of the 60s! The album The Mode is quite possibly Sonny Red's best non-Blue Note session – and a real winner with a group that includes Grant Green on guitar, and either Barry Harris or Cedar Walton on piano. Red's tone is one of our ... CD
Blue Note, 1970. Used
A really fantastic album from guitarist Grant Green – a set that's every bit as great as his other Blue Note funk albums from the time – but in a very different way! First off, the group has vibes – played by the more obscure Willie Bivens, sometimes with this hard chromatic ... CD

Paul Desmond

Polka Dots & Moonbeams
Bluebird, Mid 60s. Used
Mid-60s work from his excellent albums on RCA! CD

Cannonball Adderley

Domination (with bonus track)
Capitol, 1965/1970. Used
A key meeting of Cannonball Adderley and David Axelrod – and one of the pair's first larger collaborations together! The album features Cannonball solos over larger backings by Oliver Nelson – with some occasional help from brother Nat Adderley – all produced with that dark ... CD
Prestige/OJC, 1949/1950. Used
One of THE key records in the Konitz school – a full length Prestige album that brings together important material from sessions originally issued on 10" LPs! The lineup here is virtually the Konitz school – with shifting lineups that include Billy Bauer on guitar, Lenny Tristano ... CD

Charles Mingus with Eric Dolphy

Revenge – The Legendary Paris Concerts
Revenge, 1964. Used 2 CDs
A stupid title, but a record that features some excellent material from Mingus' fruitful trip to Europe in 1964! The 2CD set brings together live tracks recorded at the Salle Wagram in Paris, played by Mingus with a small group that includes Eric Dolphy, Clifford Jordan, Jaki Byard, and Dannie ... CD
Warner, Late 70s/Early 80s. Used
A funky trip through the classic Warner Brothers recordings of P-Funk maestro Bootsy Collins! The set's a pretty great introduction to Bootsy's work, and includes some of his best numbers, plus a great set of notes that will really help you navigate his rich career. There's a total of 14 tracks, ... CD
