❔

...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Pandit Prannath

Earth Groove
Douglas, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Not as funky as the "groove" in the title might imply, but a nice album of Indian vocal music, sung by Pandi Prannath. Side one features "Raaga Bhoopali", and side two contains the more mellow "Raaga Asavari". Packaged in a nice hip cover, with kind of a stoner image ... LP, Vinyl record album

Astor Piazzolla

Histoire Du Tango
Polydor (France), 1973. Near Mint- 2LP
An unusual double-length set from this great Argentine modernist – not his own compositions, but works from the history of tango – but all delivered with the kind of edge that Astor was bringing to his own music in the 70s! LP, Vinyl record album

Now Again, 1976. Near Mint- 2LP
Some of the heaviest work to come from the African scene of the 70s – the initial offering of the Ngozi Family – a group who clearly take strong inspiration from the Cream years of the UK scene, but who also come across with a grittier, punkier vibe overall – thanks to lean, ... Prince Onago & Princess Muana with Chick Foster

Roots Of Rhythm
Jubilee, Late 50s. Very Good
A strange and beautiful session of tracks that mix african percussion with jazzy rhythms, and slight touches of exotica. Drums Of Passion
Columbia, 1960. Very Good
A classic session of pounding percussion – quite possibly the most successful entry into this earthy genre that hit the recording scene at the end of the 50s! One of those records that definitely lives up to its cover – as it's not only a great mish-mash of styles, it's also got some 80s instrumental currents that might come as a surprise if you know other records on the Soundway label! Along Comes Cal
Verve, Late 60s. Sealed
Great stuff – and very very groovy! Cal cut this record for Verve during the height of his swinging 60s Latin years – and he's working here with arranger Chico O'Farrill, who at the time, was perfectly suited for Cal's short, jaunty approach to a groove! The album's filled with nice ... LP, Vinyl record album
