It's Alright

CD (Item 942069) Unique (Germany), 2013 — Condition: Used
$6.99 ...

CD

Al Supersonic has a mighty nice vocal approach on this retro-soul set – a style that's a bit looser and maybe more personal than some other singers in recent years – a quality that gives the the whole thing a pretty sweet edge! Al's a bit less "perfect" than some of the deep soul singers who've been cropping up on recent sets of this nature – and that quality makes the whole thing completely charming – served up with a raspy quality that really has the singer and the group pushing their groove nicely – more with the raw energy that you'd get in a live gig than some of the too-polished attempts at work like this that have been flooding the market of late. Titles include "It's Alright", "You've Been Hurt", "Scandal Marketplace", "Under Construction", "I'm In Love With You", "That's Not The Way To Say Goodbye", and "I'll Always Be There".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Philadelphia Experiment
Ropeadope/Atlantic, 2001. Used

The Philadelphia Experiment is a great trio featuring drummer Ahmir Thompson (from The Roots), jazz bassist Christian McBride, and keyboardist Uri Caine, who plays some great Fender Rhodes and Hammond B-3 on the set! Jive Turkeys

Bread & Butter
Colemine, 2010. Used
Organ funk from the midwest scene – raw, tightly grooving instrumentals and the first full length release from Ohio's Jive Turkeys – numbers that sounds right in step with the 70s instro funk of The Meters and the best of the contemporary indie funk scenes! The group is a four piece ... CD

Nick Pride & The Pimptones

Rejuiced Phat Shake
Legere (France), 2014. Used
We're not sure what we think of the title – which has a bit of a 90s ring to it – but the record's got a smoking soulful sound that definitely lives up to previous work from Nick Pride and his combo! The group's equal parts 60s soul and 70s funk – and often blend the two together ... CD
Now Again/Five Day Weekend, 2009. Used
An overlooked chapter in the Mr Chop canon! Coz Littler, aka Mr. Chop, has been a beacon in the future groove cosmos for years now – filtering his love for spacey 70s psych funk through classic-era hip hop beatcraft in a distinctive, irresistible way – and he's uber-prolific, too. In ... CD

Brownout

Oozy
Nat Geo, 2012. Used
Massively heavy funk from Brownout – and a set that may well be their greatest so far! We weren't sure what to expect when the group hit the Nat Geo label – but honestly, they seem like they're even rawer and rootsier than before – really serving up a brilliant blend of funk and ... CD
Ubiquity, 2004. Used
Massive work by Quantic – his third album, and easily the best one so far! There's a sophistication to the grooves here that we never would have expected in the earlier recordings – a keen love of a globe's worth of influence – summed up in the deeply changing mood of the set, as ... CD

Piano Overlord (Prefuse 73)

Singles Collection 03 to 05
Money Studies, Early/Mid 2000s. Used
The most uncategorizable grooves in the canon of Guillermo Scott Herren – his Rhodes, Wurlitzer, and otherwise keys-and-drums centered Piano Overlord guise – and a collection of rare vinyl singles cut from 03-05! Maestro Scott wrote, plays, and produced all the tracks – done with ... CD

Medeski, Martin & Wood

Friday Afternoon In The Universe
Ryko/Gramavision, 1995. Used
The second Gramavision album by MM&W, and a batch of grooves that shows them opening up their style a lot more than on their first one. There's equal parts of Larry Young and Jimmy McGriff mixed into the organ here, and the rhythm, while tight, is also got a nice open-ended feel. Titles ... CD

Prestige, 1972/1974. Used
A great set that brings together 2 live albums from organist Charles Earland!
