Greatest Hits (UK pressing)

LP (Item 942043) Tamla/Motown (UK), Mid/Late 60s — Condition: Near Mint-

(80s pressing.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Tamla, 1963. Very Good
One of the best of the 60s live sets from Motown – a sublime showcase for the talents of a young Marvin Gaye! There's a feel here that's a bit looser, and almost a bit rougher than some of Marvin's other records from the time – and there's almost a bit more force in his vocals than on ... Moods Of Marvin Gaye
Tamla, 1966. Very Good

Marvin Gaye

Midnight Love
Columbia, 1982. Very Good
Marvin Gaye's last album ever – and a sensuous batch of grooves that almost return him to the sound of Let's Get It On! This is the second of two live albums that Marvin Gaye cut during the 70s – and in many ways, it's the better one! Tamla, 1981. Very Good+
An obscure later album by Syreeta – but still a great one! The lady's moving into an 80s groove on most of these cuts – but she's still got that sweet heavenly vocal approach, very similar to Minnie Riperton, whose late style she's taking up on a number of the album's smooth, well ... SOUL/Motown, 1969. Near Mint-
A classic set by The Originals – one of Motown's best second-generation soul groups, with a sound that rivaled the best of the indie sweet soul groups of the late 60s and early 70s – those fragile harmonies and personal qualities, yet presented here with the sharper finish you'd expect ...
