❔

We always love Erroll Garner in a fuller setting – something that's not always easy to find on record – and this album features his piano in the lead, over the top of some great backings from Leith Stevens – known best for his jazz soundtracks of the 50s! Stevens' provides a light bank of strings and woodwinds as support for Garner – and some of the best tunes here have a slight bossa undercurrent – quite sparkling, and very nice overall. Titles include "The Tease", "Mimi", "Paris Mist", "Fashion Interlude", "Louise", and "Theme From A New Kind Of Love".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono pressing. Shrinkwrap is aged, with a hole in front.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mercury, 1962. Near Mint-
A beautiful set of tracks that features Art Farmer soloing on flugelhorn over larger arrangements by Oliver Nelson. Jump For Joy
Mercury, 1958. Very Good
An interesting early side by Cannonball that captures him before he'd really found his voice – and when the folks at Mercury still didn't really know what to do with him. The record's a tightly arranged set of tracks from Duke Ellington's musical "Jump For Joy" – with ... LP, Vinyl record album

A surprisingly great album – one that we might have passed up otherwise! An excellent early session from a young Lee Morgan – a set that we'd rank right up there with his best Blue Note material of the time!
