The second volume to the fake Hotpie & Candy label series of "lost funk cuts" that really aren't, but which still sound pretty darn authentic – and set the scene for a huge wave of later work from Poets Of Rhythm and The Whitefield Brothers! Lots of good funky grooves in a sort of James Brown-y vein, with the sort of stripped down funky feel that you'd expect from the Soulciety label. We don't know the real deal on this, but the liner notes try to tell you that it's a lot of different old bands playing the music. It's all new, though, as far as we can tell. Cuts include "On The Run (Chase Theme)", "Strokin The Girls", "Serengeti Stroke", "Into Space & Time", and "Rhodesian Girl".  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

There's a date range listed on the cover that stretches back to the 70s – not the actual age of the music on this set, but instead a way of indicating the decades worth of inspiration drawn upon by The Dandelion Set – especially the cooler post-psych elements of the UK scene in the 70s, ... A really great, oft-overlooked album from the best period of Quincy Jones!
