Salute To Ethel Waters (10-inch)

LP (Item 938394) Coral, 1950s — Condition: Very Good

(Maroon label pressing with deep groove. Cover has a half split top seam, discoloration from age, and a sticker spot on back.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Alive

Alive
Urana, 1979. Very Good
Alive were one of the hippest all-female combos of their time – and although they were marginalized in the womyn's music ghetto for most of their career, they've got a great sound that's been rediscovered over the years by crate-diggers and jazz dancers! One of the rare Columbia sessions from Jackie & Roy – and a set that has them cutting new small combo versions of tunes they also did in the 50s – giving them a leaner style here, and a mighty nice swing! Includes a great version of "Dahuud", "Could You Use Me", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mark Murphy

Rah
Riverside, 1961. Sealed
Great early work by Mark Murphy – a set that's different than the cool breeziness of his 70s work, and done with an approach that's a lot hipper than most of his 60s contemporaries! Ernie Wilkins handles the arrangements, and there's a rollicking soul jazz groove here that's a bit unusual ... LP, Vinyl record album

Imperial, Late 60s. Sealed
A beautiful little session from vocalist Sue Raney – and a bit of a departure from her earlier work for Capitol! Bitches Brew
Columbia, 1969. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
One of the few cases in jazz where an oft-played classic still resonates with power!
