Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Mel Torme

Torme
Verve/Universal, 1958. Used
An overlooked gem from Mel – a great early album for Verve, one that's every bit as nice as his stellar work for the Bethlehem label! The set's got Mel singing with the Marty Paich orchestra – a good thing, too – as Marty's always been the best arranger for Mel's unique way of ... CD
Liberty/Sonorama (Germany), 1969. Used
A wild little record from this little-known American singer – a set recorded in Germany at the end of the 60s, with a compelling mix of jazz, bossa, psychedelic, and funky touches! Don's got this weird sort of raspy vocal approach a times – a rumbling style of putting over a lyric that' ... CD
Verve, Early 60s. Used
An overlooked gem from Mel Torme's years at Verve – an album dedicated to the music of Duke Ellington and Count Basie, set to some very upbeat, jazzy backings from Johnny Mandel! The album's quite swinging at points – and given the choice of material, Mel really breaks from the ... CD
Capitol/Mosaic, 1950s. Used
An insane amount of music from this amazing vocal group – 14 classic albums – Voices in Modern, Freshmen Favorites, Four Freshmen & Five Trombones, Four Freshmen & Five Trumpets, Four Freshmen & Five Saxes, Voices In Latin, Voices In Love, Freshmen Favorites Vol 2, In Person ... CD
Light In The Attic/Project 3, 1967. Used
The very first Free Design album, recorded in 1967 for Project 3 records – and darn tough to find in any format! The album is a swirling mix of vocal harmonies and cute little tuneful songs, sung by the group in a style that's sort of a mix between the Hi-Los and The Singers Unlimited – ... CD

Mel Torme

My Kind Of Music
Verve, 1961. Used
One of Mel's best albums of jazz vocals! The record was cut in London, with work by arrangers Geoff Love, Tony Osborne, and Wally Stott – and it's got a wonderfully full quality that works perfectly with the vocals of "The Velvet Fog". Stott's best known as the arranger for Scott ... CD

Mel Torme

Songs Of New York
Atlantic, Early 60s. Used
One of Mel's best non-Bethlehem albums, and a record that's as much a loving tribute to New York as any you'll ever buy! Kind of funny, too, because in Mel's California Suite, there's all this stuff about how lousy New York is – but by the time of this early 60s recording, Mel's clearly ... CD

Donna Summer

Bad Girls
Mercury, 1979. Used
A super huge hit for Donna Summer – a disco classic as well as a pop crossover smash! The album was produced by disco powerhouse Giorgio Morodoer, and featured the hits "Hot Stuff", "Bad Girls", and "Dim All The Lights". Plus the songs "On My Honor", ... CD

Tamba Trio

Tamba Trio (1975)
RCA (Brazil), 1975. Used
A mid 70s gem from the Tamba Trio! The record takes their core 60s sound of piano trio grooving and bossa harmony vocals, and gives it a strong 70s twist – with mellow production that flanges the style out a bit more, and arrangements that add in some extra instrumentation from the likes of ... CD
Blue Note, 1959. Used
If you ever needed a record to re-remind you of the genius of Jackie McLean, this Blue Note classic may well be it! At first glance, the session appears to be the usual sort of date – a quintet outing, with help from Donald Byrd on trumpet, Walter Davis on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and ... CD
