Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Jeremy Udden

Three In Paris
Sunnyside, 2019. Used
A beautiful record from reedman Jeremy Udden – a set with four pieces by Steve Lacy at the core, and some equally great material throughout the entire record! The group here features Udden on soprano and alto sax – working out these thoughtful, melodic lines that snake beautifully over ... CD

Dave Liebman/Dave Binney/Donny McCaslin/Samuel Blais

Four Visions Saxophone Quartet
Sunnyside, 2019. Used
A great update of the sax quartet format – a mode that first saw big expression in jazz during the 80s, but which has sadly fallen out of use in more recent years! Here, a trio of younger players bring new energy to the music with longtime saxophone genius Dave Liebman – in a format ... CD

Avishai Cohen

Arvoles
Sunnyside, 2019. Used
Bassist Avishai Cohen never fails to delight our ears – he's always got ways of opening things up past the usual – keeping his instrument upfront, and in a very personal placement on a recording – while also encouraging the others to really bring their best ideas into play! Here, ... CD
Mingus Music/Sunnyside, 1965. Used 2 CDs
A rare rare landmark from Charles Mingus – music written for the 1965 Monterey festival, but (as the title indicates) not played at the festival! The recording was done later, at UCLA, with a group that includes Charles McPherson, Julius Watkins, Jimmy Owens, Hobart Dotson, and Howard ... CD

Tobias Meinhart

Berlin People
Sunnyside, 2019. Used
Tenorist Tobias Meinhart is the leader of the group, but about half the record also features some great guitar from Kurt Rosenwinkel – whose colorful, raspy tones really illuminate the sound! Meinhart has a strong, rich tone when he's moving straight ahead – and on the tunes with ... CD
Sunnyside, 2016. Used
A totally great group – all hip leaders who've given us great records on their own in recent years, working together here as a combo with a really fresh sound of its own! The music draws on the strengths of the individual members, but also really pushes forward, too – as their unified ... CD

Yusef Lateef

Other Sounds
New Jazz/OJC, 1957. Used
A wonderful album that's as swinging as it is exotic! The record really picks up the groove from Lateef's earlier sides for Savoy – and features a mixture of hardbop and more "Eastern" themed musical images, all extremely compelling, and a wonderful look at a jazz underground that ... CD

Dewey Redman Quartet

Living On The Edge
Black Saint (Italy), 1989. Used
The album's got a bit of an odd title – as we hardly think that Redman was living on the edge at the time – but it's also a great little set, no matter what the name! Dewey's playing in a soulful and inside mode on most tracks – working in a style that recalls some of Archie ... CD

Sonny Stitt & Jack McDuff

Stitt Meets Brother Jack
Prestige/OJC, 1962. Used
An album that was more famously issued under the title Nuther Fu'ther – and which features Stitt & McDuff in a very tasty set of ortan/tenor grooves, played with that style that Prestige was finally beginning to perfect in the early 60s, as it let these organ combos shake off their 50's ... CD
