Together We Stand (with bonus tracks)

CD (Item 936496) Ariola/FTG, 1979 — Condition: Used
$5.99 ...

CD

The cover's a bit unassuming, and almost makes this set look like some throwaway disco album – but Chanson's got a lot more to offer than that, and groove tightly here in a really great modern soul vein! The rhythms are strong and bold – forged by the duo of bassist James Jamerson and guitarist David Williams – with a lean vibe that's somewhere in the space of Columbia Records modern soul of the time, with all the depth that might imply – but with plenty of clubby touches too! Key players include Harvey Mason on drums and Donald Myrick on sax – both players who give the record a really top-shelf, all-quality groove. Titles include "Rock Don't Stop", "Sing All Night", "Jack Be Nimble", "Magic Carpet Ride", and "Make It Happen". CD features bonus tracks – "Jack Be Nimble (12" mix)" and "Rock Don't Stop (12" mix)".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

One of the few 70s albums from the wonderful Major Harris as a solo act – and a lesser-known set that's a great follow up to the Major's previous records for Atlantic! The vibe here is a bit less Philly, but still in that mellow grooving style that works so well for Harris' vocals – a ... CD

Spank

Spank You!
FTG, 1985. Used
Great work here from Spank – a group with a much warmer groove than some of the "spank" records you might know from the disco scene of a few years before! This time around, the rhythms are mostly midtempo – tight-stepping grooves with lots of 80s soul touches intact – a ... CD

An overlooked killer from Brick – the group's fourth album, but every bit as tight and funkier as earlier sets! Brick's Atlanta-bred groove is very much in place here – that lean, mean approach to funk that made them a standout right from the get-go – almost setting the scene for ... CD

Forecast 1
RCA/FTG, 1982. Used
One of the more obscure early 80s soul outings on RCA – a group of five guys and one gal – all working in a mix of mainstream styles of the time! There's kind of a funk ensemble feel to the set, even though the guys aren't shown with instruments on the cover – and songs range ... CD

Roy Ayers in a tight mid 80s funk mode – commanding a modern vibe really well, especially with his vibes so prominent in the sound! Although the sound's a step or two more modern than the Polydor years, Roy still sounds great – and he grooves nicely on this batch of tracks that mix ... CD

Michael Henderson

Slingshot
Buddah/FTG, 1981. Used
Much as we like Michael Henderson, we almost want to hate him for the cover of this one – which features him in a skin-tight Speedo – but the record is just too damn good! The music is fantastic – and is sort of an update of the earlier east coast smooth soul sound, with lots of ... CD

Ron Banks

Truly Bad
Columbia/FTG, 1983. Used
One of the original Dramatics, singer Ron Banks strikes out here on his own – a slept on gem from the early 80s! The set's in a similar modern soul mode to LJ Reynolds, who also worked with him in the group, and was having a bit of a solo career of his own at the time. It's got sort of a D-T ... CD

Excellent work by Glenn Jones – even if the original record was only a 5 track EP! The set is one of those strange little records issued in the early 80s, when the music industry was trying to figure out a way to make money between the ever-escalating cost of the LP and the less-popular ... CD

It's been 8 years since Sade's last album, but rest assured, she's still pretty much the same!
