❔

The first-ever set we've seen dedicated to the overlooked doo wop genius of The Cardinals – a group that recorded for Atlantic Records in the same generation as The Drifters and The Clovers, but never received a full LP treatment by the label! We've always felt that lack is one of the reasons why The Cardinals never got the later exposure they deserved – because, as you'll hear here, they're a tremendous quintet – with especially sublime harmonies on the mellower numbers, which they make shine and sparkle in a way that rivals the early 50s best of The Orioles! Yet they're also pretty great on the groovers – able to move upbeat, but still retain the warmth of their vocals – really making them a perfect fit for Atlantic Records in the pre-soul years. The set includes all their recordings, and even includes a few rare demo tracks too – and titles include "I Won't Make You Cry Anymore", "The Bump", "Lovely Girl", "For A While", "Offshore", "Come Back My Love", "Under A Blanket Of Blue", "Wheel Of Fortune", "The Door Is Still Open", "I'll Always Love You", "The End Of The Story", and "One Love".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Eleanor Goodman

Eleanor Goodman
Trumpet/Boogie Times (France), 1987. Used
Unreleased boogie from Eleanor Goodman – a lost 80s session that's resurrected from rare studio tapes, and presented here for the first time ever! The album's got a really great blend of clubby numbers and mellower, midtempo soul cuts – lots of spare, stark rhythms that have a real ... CD
TK/Hot, Late 70s. Used
T-Connection were one of the better dancefloor bands on the legendary TK label in the 70's. The group did play with a disco style, but their sound had a lot of strong instrumental funk grooves, and the band was super-tight, even if they did play at a triple tempo. This nice 14 track CD contains ... CD

Tony Cook

Back To Reality
Stones Throw, Mid 80s/2011. Used
The unreleased album from Tony Cook – recorded between 1982 and 1986 – newly remixed by Peanut Butter Wolf and given a ceremonial release by Stones Throw! Like the couple of Cook singles from the era we were previously hip to, it's a nice mix of cosmic soul and homespun charm – ... CD

Love's The Thing
Buddah/Soul Brother (UK), 1975. Used
A really great step forward for Barbara Mason – a record that's got her working in a more mature mode than before, and a deeper soul style as well! One of the bigger developments of Barbara Mason's career was her participation in the "answer song" cycle that circulated around ... CD

Sweet 80s soul from Barbara Mason – an artist who really knew how to keep her groove going by changing things up! After initial fame as a little girl singer, then a hip move into 70s funky soul, Barbara moves things up again with some great mellow soul elements – a few touches of deep ... CD

SOS Band

Too
Tabu, 1981. Used
The SOS Band's second album – and a masterpiece of 80s groove! The album's wonderfully tight, and wonderfully right on the money – held together like a pile of money dipped in honey – keyboards, bass, percussion, and vocals all sweetly grooving with that post-70s funky feel that ... CD
Brunswick/Solid (Japan), 1980. Used
