Can't Stand The Pressure

CD

✈

The first-ever CD issue of a range of material from this ultra-hip group – all tracks that originally appeared on vinyl-only releases, now making their CD debut in an overstuffed collection that features 24 tracks in all! The vibe here is great – that Karl Hector & The Malcouns mix of deep funk instrumentation and various global elements – almost an imagined version of 70s sounds from Africa and the Mid East, but served up with the sensibilities of a deep funk combo – which is what they are, given that the group is just the Whitefield Brothers and Poets Of Rhythm, working here under another one of their many names! Yet the instrumentation is quite different than those other acts, too – much more rootsy and filled with a lot of organic percussion and other global elements – as you'll hear on titles that include "Shangold", "Leealah", "Roads Of Otumpa", "Tamanrasset", "JB Rip", "Irtijal", "The Cave", "Orange", "Transition X", "Medium Rare (part 1)", "Beyond Squares", and "Coomassi".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Heliocentrics & Melvin Van Peebles

Last Transmission
Now Again, 2014. Used 2 CDs
A mindblowing collaboration between The Heliocentrics and underground film legend Melvin Van Peebles – a set that has the group serving up some madly trippy grooves, while Melvin speaks and sings some wisdom of his own! Van Peebles already blew our minds years ago with his insane soundtrack ... CD

Now Again/Five Day Weekend, 2009. Used
An overlooked chapter in the Mr Chop canon! Coz Littler, aka Mr. Chop, has been a beacon in the future groove cosmos for years now – filtering his love for spacey 70s psych funk through classic-era hip hop beatcraft in a distinctive, irresistible way – and he's uber-prolific, too. In ... CD

Greyboy

Soul Mosaic
Ubiquity, 2004. Used
One of the most unified albums we've ever heard from Greyboy – an excellent little set that perfectly bridges his two loves of funk and hip hop! The core style is in the hip hop-infused mode of earlier years – with lots of programming and scratches by Greyboy himself – but there's ... CD

Al Supersonic & The Teenagers

It's Alright
Unique (Germany), 2013. Used
Al Supersonic has a mighty nice vocal approach on this retro-soul set – a style that's a bit looser and maybe more personal than some other singers in recent years – a quality that gives the the whole thing a pretty sweet edge! Al's a bit less "perfect" than some of the deep ... CD

Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings

Naturally
Daptone, 2005. Used
