DJ Rogers returns to his roots, and cuts an album that's more in a straight gospel mode than his earlier gospel-influenced soul sets! Honestly, the results are so great, we like this one just as much as the best of his secular albums – and the record's got a cohesive feel that's totally wonderful – a smooth, modern soul approach to Gospel that steps off from DJ's Columbia years, and wraps his amazing vocals in some warm arrangements, light keyboards, and backing vocals that never dominate too much. The songwriting and pacing of the album is excellent, and titles include "All I Gave Him Was My Heart", "I Told Him I Would Sing", "He Makes It Allright", "Overcome", "He Cares For Me", and "All In Me".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Beginning Of The End

Nassau Funk
Alston/Playback, Early 70s. Used
Fantastic funk from Beginning Of The End – one of the coolest, grooviest, most unique funk groups of the 70s – and one who've got a real criss-crossing of styles in their sound! As you'd guess from the title, these guys hail from Nassau, in the Bahamas – but their sound is hardly ... CD
Duke/Playback, Late 60s. Used
Great great work from the mighty Ernie K Doe – a legendary New Orleans singer who's best known for a few big hits – but who steps out here on some overlooked singles for Duke Records from the 60s! This material's not nearly as well known as Doe's records for the Minit and Instant label ... CD

Roy C Hammond

More Sex & More Soul
Mercury/Playback, 1977. Used
Classic 70s southern soul from Roy C – a brilliant follow-up to his excellent Sex & Soul album, but a great little record that more than stands on its own! Although Roy's roots are in New York City, his sound here is one that echoes strongly with the changes going on down in the Memphis, ... CD

A really fantastic little set – way way better than we ever expected, thanks in large part to the strength of the remixers used in the project! We'll be honest in saying that it would be easy to ruin Curtis Mayfield's work by remixing it too much – because the man's genius is so well-es ... CD

Curtis Mayfield

Curtis (Charly pressing)
Curtom/Charly, Early 70s/1996. Used
A mindblowing solo set from Curtis Mayfield – a record that not only foregrounds all the subtle politics he'd been forging in the Impressions during the 60s – but one that also really has Mayfield exploding as a force to be reckoned with in the studio! The album's a personal ... CD

Bobby Nunn

Private Party
Motown/FTG, 1983. Used
Bobby Nunn's holding a private party, but it's heavy on the best street soul modes of the 80s – put together with a wickedly sharp electro-styled groove that makes Nunn's work a real standout from some of his Motown contemporaries! There's plenty of basslines and keyboards in the mix, but ... CD

Graham Central Station

Ain't No Bout-A-Doubt It
Warner, 1975. Used
One of the high points of Larry Graham's career – a hard-jamming set of guitar-based funk that forever put Graham Central Station on the map! There's a virtuosity to the record that's really stunning – bass, guitar, and drums all dropping into place magically alongside one another ... CD

Who cares about "someone you love"? We're just happy that Barry White's singing for us! The album's one of the maestro's biggest selling albums of the 70s, and for good reason – as the whole thing's a sexy symphony all the way through, filled with as many stepping rhythms as it is ... CD
