Isabelle, Mon Amour...

LP (Item 933663) Marc (Haiti), 1981 — Condition: Near Mint-

...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

George Anderson

Our Man In Africa
FM, 1963. Very Good
Folksy soul from George Anderson – an African singer by birth, recording here in a Paris studio, and singing in a mode that's a bit like some of Miriam Makeba's recordings from the time. George is on lead vocals and acoustic guitar – and most tracks have rather spare backings, with ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1974. Very Good
An album of Manu Dibango's that was released after his big hit "Soul Makossa", but which was actually recorded before, in a very heavy Afro Funk mode! Manu plays organ and piano, as well as his usual soprano sax, and the tracks include "Weya", "Tom Tom", "Pepe ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hugh Masekela

Masekela
Chisa/Uni, Early 70s. Very Good+
One of the funkier albums by African trumpeter Hugh Masekela, and a record that's filled with lots of short little groovers that have more of an edge than on previous pop instrumental albums – much more of the hard funky vibe of the Chisa years! The set features loads of great funky 45 cuts ... LP, Vinyl record album

Osibisa

Happy Children
Warner, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
This UK Afro Funk group is slicking things up a bit for this 1973 album – but not in a bad way, because it actually kicks up the groove considerably. In fact, it almost sounds like they've been listening to a bit of War – because the the best tracks on the album have lots of that funky ... LP, Vinyl record album
Reprise, Late 60s. Sealed
A huge breakthrough moment for Miriam Makeba – a South African singer who'd been bringing her music to the American scene for a number of years, but really took off in new soulful directions with this album! Previously, Makeba was maybe more confined to the world of folk – mostly ... LP, Vinyl record album

79rs Gang

79rs Gang
Sinking City, 2015. Near Mint-
A highly percussive New Orleans group with a feel that's right from the streets – just the kind of live, spontaneous energy you'd expect from the "Indian parade" image on the front! Most instrumentation comes from handheld percussion – the kind you'd use when marching down ... LP, Vinyl record album

Klezmorim

Streets Of Gold
Arhoolie, 1978. Near Mint-
Great work from one of the most important groups in the klezmer revival – with a nice Robert Crumb cover too! LP, Vinyl record album

Hugh Masekela

I Am Not Afraid
Blue Thumb/Chisa, 1974. Near Mint-
An excellent little record from Hugh Masekela – cut right during that perfect time when he was mixing soul, funk, and just the right amount of jazz to keep things real! The record features some nice electric piano from Joe Sample, and the best cuts have a choppy funky groove. Some cuts have ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pazy & The Black Hippies

Wa Ho Ha
Secret Stash, 1978. Near Mint-
A weird little record from the Nigerian scene of the 70s – much more laidback than you might expect, and a set with a definite Jamaican influence too! At times, some of these tracks are almost more reggae than Afro Funk – although at other points, there's definitely the fierce energy ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ivan Boogaloo Joe Jones

Black Whip
Prestige, 1973. Very Good
Amazing stuff from Ivan Boogaloo Joe Jones! Unlike some of the other players on Prestige during the early 70s – who often got a bit weaker as the decade moved on, thanks to the departure of some of the better forces arranging and producing the records – Jones kept on playing hard, ... Willie Bobo

Uno Dos Tres
Verve, 1966. Very Good
Killer material, and one of Willie's best-ever albums for Verve! The album's filled with groovy numbers that hit the good mix of soul and Latin that was coming out of the New York scene at the time – and Willie delivers all of it with a tight jazzy sound that works great with the titles. ...
