Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

John Coltrane

Lush Life
Prestige/OJC, 1957/1958. Used
Strong work from John Coltrane's early years as a leader – even if the album is sort of a collection of tracks that Trane recorded for Prestige, instead of a discreetly separate session! Side one features Coltrane's tenor in a spare setting with Earl May on bass and Art Taylor on drums ... CD
Blue Note, 1966. Used
No filters here, as Hank Mobley's sound is clean, lean, and right on the money – hitting that newly-sophisticated groove of the Caddy For Daddy years in this sweet unissued set! The date was recorded in the 60s, but unissued by Blue Note for many years – another one of those head-scratc ... CD
Columbia, 1957. Used
A masterful meeting of two 50s modern jazz talents – the trumpet of Miles Davis balanced with the arrangements of Gil Evans – with results that have made the album one of Miles' greatest ever! The sound here is completely sublime – as Davis gets all chromatic and spooky over ... CD

Return To Forever

Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxy
Polydor, 1973. Used
Somehow it seems to us that the members of Return To Forever always cut better albums under their own names than for RTF, but these sides are still not without their merit. Like everyone else, we're rethinking our distaste for fusion, and this set finds Chick Corea, Lenny White, Stanley Clarke and ... CD
Prestige/OJC, 1956. Used
One of the classic early Miles Davis & John Coltrane sessions for Prestige – a well-crafted quintet album that shows Miles finding a stronger voice than ever, and Coltrane beginning to emerge as a key force on his own! Backing is subtle and soulful – handled by the trio of Red ... CD

Stan Getz/Clarke Boland Big Band

Change Of Scenes
Verve, 1971. Used
A fantastic rare album cut by Stan Getz in Europe! The session features Getz as the main soloist with the Clarke-Boland Big Band, and the overall sound is an incredible chapter in both the career of Getz and the CBBB. Given that most of the CBBB's soloists had a sharp angular sound, Getz's softer ... CD

Mat Maneri Trio

So What
Hat Hut (Switzerland), 1998. Used
Mat Maneri plays electric violin in a trio featuring Matthew Shipp on piano and Randy Peterson on drums. CD

Steve Lacy & Brion Gysin

Songs
Hatology (Switzerland), 1981. Used
We're not often the biggest fans of poetry in the work of Steve Lacy – but somehow, this set seems to come off especially right – thanks, no doubt, to the fact that beat legend Brion Gysin composed all of the words! Gysin himself only speaks on 2 titles – but his presence there ... CD
Prestige/OJC, 1956/1957. Used
Incredible work from the enigmatic Moondog – and a great CD that brings together his rare 2nd and 3rd albums for the Prestige label! The work here is quite different than some of Moondog's later, more serious compositions – in a mode that's much earthier, personal, and spontaneous ... CD

Cambria/BBE (UK), 1983. Used
Very hip vocal work from singer Janet Lawson – an under-discovered vocalist with a very groovy sound! Janet's got a soaring, breezy feel that's a bit like some of the best Bay Area or European work from a few years before – inflected with some Brazilian influences, but also delivered ... CD
