Fantastic Five Keys

LP (Item 930739) Capitol, Mid 50s — Condition: Very Good

One of the greatest vocal groups of the 50s – served up here on a rare album of their gems for Capitol Records! Titles include "Ling Ting Tong", "Out Of Sight Out Of Mind", "Wisdom Of A Fool", "She's The Most", "Let There Be You", "Close Your Eyes", and "The Verdict".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Abridged 70s pressing.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Love Lives Forever
Capitol, 1980. Near Mint-
The last album ever from the amazing Minnie Riperton – and one of her greatest records as well! Sheree Brown

Music
Capitol, 1982. Near Mint-
One of the two beautifully sweet albums of soul that the lovely Sheree Brown cut for Capitol in the early 80s. This one has less of a smooth jazzy sound than her first one, but it compensates by adding some tracks in a nice 80s groove mode – pushing the sound a bit further than before. ... Donna Washington

Going For The Glow
Capitol, 1981. Near Mint-
A tremendous sophomore set from Donna Washington – working perfectly here in the hands of Capitol soul maestro Chuck Jackson! Capitol, 1982. Near Mint-
One of the more new wave-oriented moments from Ava Cherry – a singer we know best from her solo work in soul, but who also has a pretty strong pedigree on the rock side of the spectrum as well! The instrumentation is heavy on keyboards – played by Mark Isham, in a way that sometimes ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lou Rawls with Les McCann Ltd

Stormy Monday
Capitol, 1962. Very Good+
One of Lou's most jazz-oriented albums – featuring backing by Les McCann's famous trio with Leroy Vinnegar and Ron Jefferson, perfectly suited to Lou's soulful renditions of the tunes on the album. Most of the numbers are bluesy ones, but as usual, Lou manages to give them his own hip twist ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mystic Merlin

Sixty Thrills A Minute
Capitol, 1981. Sealed Gatefold
Mystic Merlin runnin' at Sixty Thrills A Minute! It's a sweet ride, too, piloted by one of the best of the funky soul groups on Capitol. This one! As you might guess from the title, the record's got a bit more uptempo stuff than on their earlier album, and the band works incredibly well in this ... LP, Vinyl record album

A Capella revival material from this legendary 70s ensemble. This album's possibly their best, and features the sort of mix of material – gospel, soul, and rock – that made them big with the crossover crowd. Includes Dylan's "The Man In Me", Curtis Mayfield's "People ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ted Taylor

Ted Taylor 1976
TK/Alarm, 1976. Near Mint-
An overlooked set from Ted Taylor – one of those singers who kept moving around to different labels, never quite finding his home – but always doing some great work in the process! Ted's quite different here than on his 60s work for Okeh – much more in the southern soul territory ... LP, Vinyl record album

Millie Jackson

Live & Uncensored
Spring, 1979. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Uncensored is right! Millie's live shows during the 70s were a lot raunchier than any of her records – and were usually filled with profanity, off-color jokes, and plenty of frank and foxy references to sex. She'd built her name on record through sweet heartbreaking southern soul sides ... LP, Vinyl record album
20th Century, 1980. Near Mint-
One thing about The Dells: They were always great! Even here, at the end of the 70s, in settings that are less perfect than their classic work for Cadet or Vee Jay, the group still sound wonderful – more daring vocally than most other harmony groups at the time, cutting through some smoother ...
