Tenorist Tobias Meinhart is the leader of the group, but about half the record also features some great guitar from Kurt Rosenwinkel – whose colorful, raspy tones really illuminate the sound! Meinhart has a strong, rich tone when he's moving straight ahead – and on the tunes with guitar, he and Kurt often dance together in the lead – before spinning out into strong solos of their own – in a combo that also features Ludwig Hornung on piano, Tom Berkmann on bass, and Mathias Rupping on drums. Most tunes are originals by Meinhart – songs that explode slowly with a nice sense of color – and titles include "Mount Meru", "It's Not So Easy", "Berlin People", "Alfred", "Serenity", and "Childhood".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Freddie Hubbard

Red Clay (with bonus track)
CTI, 1970. Used
Amazing work from Freddie Hubbard – one of his best albums ever! The title cut's a classic, but all cuts on the album are great – and really set a whole new standard for soul jazz in the 70s! Unlike the freer runs of Miles Davis, Freddie takes things into territory here that's open, ... CD

Miles Davis

ESP
Columbia, 1965. Used
An album of dark and subtle beauty – and still one of our favorite Miles Davis albums of all time! The set's not as earth-shattering as some of Davis' other work of the 60s, but that's why we like it so much – because the emerging genius of the group with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, ... CD

A hard and heavy side from Buddy, and true to his reputation and the title of the LP, he comes out swinging!
