El Doctor/Tamarita

7-inch (Item 929643) Tropical Diaspora (Germany), 2018 — Condition: Sealed
(pic cover)

"El Doctor" is a lively little number with a nice hint of revolution – performed here by a combo from Italy, but with a very South American vibe! The percussion is upbeat, the horns punch along with the groove, and the rolling lyrics are nice and compelling – and the flipside features "Tamarita", a tune with a bit more of a sing-song vibe!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Red vinyl pressing.)

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Volt, 1969. Very Good
Two great tracks from the "Blind Alley" era! "So I Can Love You" has a fantastic sound – with these slow funky beats underneath a madly riffing organ, dipping and turning as the girls' vocals come in to sweeten up the whole thing! "Got To Be The Man" has a ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Johnny Lytle

Loop/Hot Sauce
Tuba, 1966. Very Good
Two killer cuts from the great Johnny Lytle! Funky vibes and organ mix together in a nice groovy steppers sound that still rings out in clubs on the south side of Chicago! Killer stuff – and on the rare Tuba label! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Majestic Arrows

Doing It For Us/Another Day
Bandit, Early 70s. Very Good
Two sides of early seventies sweet soul, by this lost group from Chicago! "Doing It For Us" has a male vocal lead banking over strings – grooving with a nice midtempo punch and a bit of a Curtom production style. "Another Day" has a mellower approach – but still ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
People, 1973. Very Good
2 killers by the JBs! "Doing It To Death" is one of their best tracks from the early days – with a funky riffing sound you'll know immediately. "Everybody Got Soul" is an excellent party track with a great Maceo solo – lots of grooves, and the band is tight tight ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Althia, 1973. Very Good
Wonderful soul from this excellent east coast group! "Look Over Your Shoulder" is the group's version of the O'Jays' hit – and we like it better than the original, because it's a bit rawer, and almost a bit more honest. "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" is pretty darn nice, ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Shama, Late 60s. Very Good+
An excellent 2-part Chicago instrumental, with a cool descending organ line, and a very tight feel throughout! Part 2 has some shouted vocals ("sock it to me") by The Sequins, and the whole thing was written by Syl Johnson and Jo Armstead. 7-inch, Vinyl record
Polydor, 1972. Very Good
2 of James Brown's best duets – on one original funky 45! "What My Baby Needs Now" is a sweet soul groove, with a nice swinging midtempo pace. "This Guy-Girl" is probably the most soulful version of the Bacharach track you'll ever hear! Both sides nice, and not on any ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Thomas, Early 70s. Very Good+
2 great funky cuts by this lost Chicago soul artist who's best known for these Thomas/Curtom recordings from the early 70s. "I Got A Problem" has a nice funky guitar line at the intro, and "Mighty Mighty" is a good cover of the Impressions hit, with a great hard soul sound! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Crajon, 1974. Very Good
Two very nice, very heavy soul cuts! "Give Me Some Sugar" is a sweet mellow ballad, with Duke singing high lead vocals, with backing by a group on the choruses. He's got a nice soul sound, and the cut's a simple one, but has a really great raw harmony sound. The flipside's even nuttier ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Time/Good Old Music
Revilot, Late 60s. Very Good-
Fantastic early work from George Clinton! "Time" is classic late 60s Parliaments – with a fuzzy Detroit soul sound that shows a lot of Clinton's psychedelic influences. "Good Old Music" is even better though – and is a monster funky number that begins with a stone ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
