Will Downing

CD (Item 929338) Island, 1988 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

The debut of greatness from Will Downing – an album that really sparkled in the late 80s musical galaxy, and which strongly updated an older style of richer soul from the 70s! Will's working here with equal parts influence from jazz and soul – inflected by work from talents that include Brian Jackson, Arthur Baker, Doug Wimbush, and Keith LeBlanc – held together mightily by the legendary Downing vocals! In world where so much mainstream soul seemed adrift, Will brought back the power of older male vocalists with a classic presence – one that didn't succumb to the easy cliches of the mid 80s mainstream, and which really helped raise the bar for generations to come. Titles include a great remake of Denice Williams' "Free", a surprising take on John Coltrane's "Love Supreme", and the tracks "Do You Remember Love", "Do You", "In My Dreams", "So You Wanna Be My Lover", "Security", and "Dancing In The Moonlight".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Peak, 2010. Used
Smooth, sensual and soulful material from Will Downing – the soul veteran sounding as good here as he has in years! As you'd guess from the title, there's something of a narrative flow to the material, themes of love, lust, lies and connected by conversational interludes, but a means to an ... CD

Island (UK), 1976. Used
A landmark little record from Grace Jones – a set that started off as one of those "hey, let's see if this model can sing" sort of records – but which has gone onto become an enduring classic! Most of the tunes are older ones, but they're remade with a soaring Sigma Sound ... CD

A tough record to peg – but a great one too! Wally Badarou plays a range of spacey keyboards that include synclavier, mini moog, and prophet 5 – all over some beats that are a mix of electro and Carribean rhythms – in a style that's part jazzy, part new agey, and part 80s groove! ... CD
