An excellent little album that Sergio recorded in the US – with a sweet funky electric sound that's very different than his other work! At some level, the album has a feel that's almost like a hip 70s soundtrack – sporting these great arrangements by Dave Grusin that bring in a lot more funk than you might be used to hearing on one of Sergio's albums, making the whole thing groove in a marvelous way – while still holding onto some Brazilian touches in the rhythms, and that sweet two-female vocal lead style of Sergio's other work. The set includes two funky Stevie Wonder covers – "Superstition" and "Don't You Worry About a Thing" – plus versions of "This Masquerade", "Voce Abusou", and "Double Rainbow".  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Excellent American release from the brilliant Brazilian fusion outfit Azymuth. While occasionally they managed to get a bit complicated in their arrangements, the songs and groove never suffered for it, and the crisp modern production complements their tight sound nicely, with warm key washes and ... A&M, 1970. Very Good Gatefold

A pretty great little album from Bonfa – always one of the more corruptible bossa players, working here in a groovy set of pop arrangements by Deodato with a lively American twist! The legendary 1962 Bossa Nova concert at Carnegie Hall. Nice spare bossa organ groovers, recorded by Walter in Brazil, but released here by Tower on the heels of his bit hit albums on Verve! Killer reissue that combines both of the albums that Airto recorded for Buddah in the early 70s! Although the title and cover point to Chaves as a fairly controversial figure, especially as far as the censors were concerned, the music on this album's actually pretty simple stylistically, mostly to give a focus to the lyrics, which are sung in clear tone that we're guessing was supposed to read ...
