Through Sick & Sin

LP (Item 928455) Epic, 1961 — Condition: Near Mint-

Arranged & conducted by Joe Harnell.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Epic, Late 60s. Near Mint-
One of the few American albums ever issued by Georgie Fame – a great set of tracks from his early CBS years, put together with a package that was bound to appeal to US fans digging the Bonnie & Clyde movie! The work here is a hip mix of jazz, soul, and R&B styles – all served ... LP, Vinyl record album

Georgie Fame

Shorty
Epic, Late 60s. Near Mint-
An excellent little album from British vocalist Georgie Fame – one that has him moving way past the simple beat group sound of his roots, into a sophisticated style that mixes jazz vocalizing, hard grooving, and lots of rock/R&B influences! Georgie's still got his Mose Allison-inspired ... LP, Vinyl record album

Toni Harper

Toni
Verve, 1955. Near Mint-
One of the first "adult" albums by a young Toni Harper – first known as a child sensation in the 40s, but stepping out nicely as a torchy vocalist in the 50s! The album's got a really great, really mellow Verve approach – laidback, late nite jazz instrumentation – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Joe Williams

Worth Waiting For
Blue Note, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Joe Williams was really reviving his career as a vocalist at this point – working with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis big band on a few well-selling records, and on this smoother set with arrangements by Horace Ott. The overall feel is kind of in a swinging Grady Tate mode, with jazziness ... LP, Vinyl record album

Claudine Longet

Run Wild Run Free
A&M, 1970. Very Good+
One of the last Claudine Longet albums for A&M – and one of the grooviest too! The set's got a bit more going on than some of her previous records – a bit more confidence in the vocals, yet not too much in the rock-styled mode of her later albums on Barnaby. The balance is a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Johnny Hartman

First, Lasting & Always
Savoy, 1947. Near Mint-
Early recordings by Johnny Hartman – a variety of material, most originally issued as singles during the late 40s. Backing is by swinging small groups that include players like Cozy Cole, Tyree Glenn, Tony Mottola, and Sanford Gold – and the arrangements are a bit more hard-edged than ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, Late 50s. Near Mint-
Quite possibly the greatest of Mark Murphy's early albums for Capitol – a heavily swinging set that features some great arrangements from Bill Holman, and Mark's classic version of the title tune – which he'd reprise nicely in years to come! The album's got Murphy in great west coast ... LP, Vinyl record album
Philips, Late 60s. Near Mint-
This groovy pair didn't last long on the pop charts, but they did score relatively big with the swnging "Cinderella Rockefella" – a mad late 60s pop tune that's included here on this US album. The cut's a great one – pretty silly, but always enjoyable, and the kind of stunner ... LP, Vinyl record album

Billy Gault

When Destiny Calls
Steeplechase/Inner City, 1976. Near Mint-
Great stuff – and a beautiful album of spiritual jazz recorded by this obscure piano player who worked briefly with Jackie McLean in the seventies. Billy Gault had an amazingly soulful way of putting together his work, but never got bogged down in too much sentiment. There's some beautiful ... LP, Vinyl record album
