Cochemea — All My Relations ... CD 9.99

You might know Cochemea Gastelum from his work in The Dap-Kings over the years – but this time around, the saxophonist is very much his own man – blowing a version of his instruments that often seems electrified, ala classic Varitone from the late 60s – used in these really new and compelling ways! Cochemea has occasional tribal impulses that belie his look on the cover – but all in this very focused way that never sounds too indulgent, and which instead always steps back to the soulful territory we love from Daptone Records! And yet the record's also maybe something new for the label too – looser, never straight funk or soul – as Cochemea heads up this fantastic ensemble that's very heavy on percussion, which drives the sound with a raw, rootsy vibe – while Victor Axelrod plays keyboards, and the man himself blows on alto, flute, and bass clarinet. A real killer – with titles that include "Maso Ye'Eme", "All My Relations", "Sonora", "Los Muertos", "Mescalero", "Song Of Happiness", and "Mitote".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Pressure 75

Meltdown
East Green (UK), 2016. Used
Heavy funk, with some 70s Afro touches too – served up with some help from the Mighty Mocambos, Spike Orchestra, The Snitch, and other deep funk combos too! The horns here are nice and heavy, but used in a way that's different from both familiar Afro Funk and Ethio-styled work too – ... CD

Big Boss Man

Last Man On Earth
Blow Up (UK), 2014. Used
Maybe the coolest record we've ever heard from this mod British combo – a set that gets way past the easy retro references of previous albums, and goes for a vibe that's quite complicated, but still pretty darn groovy! The set's got the look and feel of the best jazzy soundtracks of the 60s ... CD

Fascinating Fingers

Revisite
Blue Note, 2001. Used
The spacey work of Swiss trumpeter Erik Truffaz gets the remix treatment, in a great set of chillout grooves! Truffaz has a great sound – kind of a blend of late 60s Miles Davis, and mid 70s Eddie Henderson – and his first few albums for Blue Note France have been some of our favorite ... CD

Doin' Something
Blue Note, 2001. Used
Great stuff from one of the funkiest combos around! Soulive are part of the second wave of US jam-band funk acts – the sort of groovy groups that have been springing up in the wake of Medeski, Martin, & Wood's success over the past 10 years – and the combo's got a tight no-nonsense ... CD

Stan Getz/Jimmy Rowles

Peacocks
Sony, 1975. Used
A real standout in the Stan Getz catalog of the 70s – a session of mostly spare duets with pianist Jimmy Rowles, done in a way that really breaks from the format of Stan's other work of the time! Rowles here has a raspy warmth that brings out new voicings in Getz's tenor – an ... CD
