Velvet Fog

LP (Item 927897) Vocalion, Early 50s — Condition: Very Good+
A 60s collection of earlier Decca material from Mel Torme – early in his career as a solo act, with backings by Neal Hefti, Sonny Burke, and George Cates!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Atlantic, 1963. Very Good
One of our favorite-ever albums from Mel Torme – a set that sparkles with the same smooth swing as his best late 50s dates for Bethlehem records! An overlooked gem from Mel Torme – a great early album for Verve, one that's every bit as nice as his stellar work for the Bethlehem label! Carmen McRae

Sound Of Silence
Atlantic, 1968. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of Carmen McRae's great 60s albums for Atlantic Records – a set that's still strongly jazz-based overall, but which seems to have an extra dose of soul at the bottom! The approach is a bit like the best late 60s sides by Nancy Wilson or Marlena Shaw – rooted in jazz, but hipper ... LP, Vinyl record album

An overlooked gems from the great Joe Williams – an excellent side featuring him singing in a classier and more laidback style than usual! Paramount, Early 50s. Very Good+
