RCA Victor Blues & Rhythm Revue

LP (Item 927084) RCA, 1940s/1950s — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold

A great collection of work from the blues and R&B years of RCA and related labels, including Bluebird – with work from Jesse Stone, Lucky Millinder, The Heartbreakers, The Robins, Du Droppers, Isley Brothers, King Curtis, Cab Calloway, Rene Hall, Mr Sad Head, Blowtop Lynn, Milt Trenier & His Sound Six, Illinois Jacquet, and others!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a promo stamp, stuck gatefold, and a peeled strip at the bottom.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

DJ Rogers

On The Road Again
RCA, 1976. Sealed
Classic work from the great DJ Rogers – with a soaring, sweeping, righteous soul feel that reminds us of Rance Allen at his best, or of some of the smooth work of Lamont Dozier from the same time. DJ wrote, arranged, and produced all the tracks on this album, and the cuts have a slight nod ... LP, Vinyl record album

New York Community Choir

New York Community Choir
RCA, 1977. Near Mint-
A landmark album from the New York Community Choir – a gospel group at heart, but one who've ended up in plenty of 70s soul collections – thanks to the strength of this sweet little set! Nite-Liters

Nite-Liters
RCA, 1970. Very Good+
The Nite Liters' classic first album, and a monster batch of funky instrumentals that we'd put up there with the great Meters records on Josie, or the classic JBs LPs on People. There's lots of hard drums, choppy guitars, and good funky grooves. The tracks are short and hard, with the kind of raw ... LP, Vinyl record album

Evelyn Champagne King

Music Box
RCA, 1979. Near Mint-
Niceness from Evelyn King to cap the end of the 70s! She's really in great form here – stepping out with some fully clubby backings, and working with the mighty T-Life, who's really got a great ear for her groove! The style's a bit less disco than previous albums – some simpler soul ... LP, Vinyl record album

Friends Of Distinction

Whatever
RCA, 1970. Very Good+

Linda Hopkins

Linda Hopkins
RCA, 1972. Near Mint-
Stormin' Diva soul on RCA, with arrangements by Bob James and Wade Marcus. Soulful, deep vocals, with a bit of a gospelly feel. Tracks include "Listen Women!!", "Somebody's Always Winning", and "It's My Beat". LP, Vinyl record album

Soul Train Gang

Soul Train Gang
Soul Train/RCA, 1976. Very Good+
Although it would be easy to write these guys off as a cheapo product emblazoned with the Soul Train name to cash in on the fame of the TV show, the gang's actually a pretty decent harmony soul act, and they really benefit from strong Norman Harris production on this LP. The ensemble features 2 ... LP, Vinyl record album

Main Ingredient

Super Hits
RCA, 1976. Near Mint-
A tasty collection of work from the second era of the Main Ingredient – after the death of original member Donald McPherson, and during the time when Tony Silvester was leaving the group to work on his ill-planned solo career. Supermax

Supermax
Paradise/Voyage, 1978. Good
A great batch of German disco tunes from the late 70s – shorter and more soulful than other work from the scene at the time, with lots of nice spacey instrumentation, including cool guitar and keyboard bits! Most tracks have male lead vocals, but they really take a backseat to the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Mercury, 1964. Good+
We don't know much about this group, but man are they one soulful combo!
