RCA Victor Blues & Rhythm Revue

LP (Item 927084) RCA, 1940s/1950s — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold
A great collection of work from the blues and R&B years of RCA and related labels, including Bluebird – with work from Jesse Stone, Lucky Millinder, The Heartbreakers, The Robins, Du Droppers, Isley Brothers, King Curtis, Cab Calloway, Rene Hall, Mr Sad Head, Blowtop Lynn, Milt Trenier & His Sound Six, Illinois Jacquet, and others!  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mid 80s issue. A nice copy.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

RCA, 1975. Near Mint-
An excellent LP by one of the most underrecognized talents of 70's soul! DJ's deep soul voice is smooth and mellow, with the kind of honest heartbreaking quality that you find in the best work by Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder. This great LP's got DJ in a nice set of arrangements that have a ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1965. Very Good
Collection of Sam Cooke's wonderful soul for RCA, compiled just after his untimely death. The set's divided into more uptempo numbers on the first side, and Sam's great ballads on the flip, all with his rich voice ringing clearly on top. Features "Shake", "Yeah Man", 'Win ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1966. Very Good+
A posthumous collection of material that Sam recorded for RCA before his untimely death – not really a greatest hits collection, but a lot better than the usual "house cleaning" type of record that gets issued in this sort of situation! Arrangements are by Stan Applebaum, Jimmie ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jose Feliciano

Alive Alive O!
RCA, 1969. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A beautiful little live album from Jose Feliciano – recorded in London at the end of the 60s, with a sound that's often more stripped down than his studio work of the time! Jose's on vocals and guitar, backed by only a bit of bass and percussion – so the record's almost got the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Main Ingredient

LTD
RCA, 1970. Very Good+
A wonderful debut from The Main Ingredient – and a record that really shows the new style they'd bring to group soul music in the 70s! There's a righteous energy here right from the start – a mode that echoes some of the earlier New York groups of the late 60s, but which also focuses ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chocolate Milk

Milky Way
RCA, 1979. Very Good
Tight, funky, and plenty darn groovy – a set that has Chocolate Milk sounding a lot smoother than at their start, but still pretty darn great overall! Allan Toussaint and Marshall Sehorn are still around to help the group on production, but the sound is more LA than New Orleans – a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jose Feliciano

Fireworks
RCA, 1970. Near Mint-
Classic work by Jose in the style he forged in LA at the end of the 60s – a mix of 60s pop and soul with that wonderful Latin style he used, the one that made his vocals and guitar cry slightly with the rhythms, taking conventional and familiar songs, and opening them up in a whole new way, ... Sam Cooke

Try A Little Love
RCA, 1965. Near Mint-
Released shortly after Sam's death, this is a beautiful batch of ballad tracks to remember how sweet his voice was. The production's a bit pop, but Sam's singing is as heavenly as ever. Titles include "When A Boy Falls In Love", "Try A Little Love", "Bridge Of Tears" ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jose Feliciano

Canta Otra Vez
RCA, Mid 60s. Sealed
Early material by Jose Feliciano – titles most likely recorded south of the border, before his bigger RCA fame in the US! There's a distinctly more Latin flavor to some of the material, and titles include "Sinceridad", "Un Poco Mas", "Somos Diferentes", "Mal ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gil Scott-Heron

First Minute Of A New Day
Arista, 1975. Very Good Gatefold
Gil Scott Heron's first album for Arista – very much in the mellow soul jazz work of his legendary album on Strata East! The record features some wonderfully moody jazz backing that really marks a shift in Gil's style – never going too far over the top, but hitting a sweet groove that ... LP, Vinyl record album
