Sellout

CD (Item 926267) Concord, 2010 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

Macy's best album since The Id, the slept on second album that we must be all alone in thinking is far better than her smash hit debut – coming here with hooky, fun and anthemic pop soul framing Macy's distinctively gritty lead vocals and memorable hooks! Macy Gray has always mixed it up stylistically in a way you could call "taking risks", still with ultra catchy and commercial gloss, but we just think she's creatively restless and up for anything. Here she flirts with 70s bubblegum glam rock on "Kissed It", but for the most part the album layers pop and R&B influences from the past couple decades and we'll call it an appealing win for Ms Gray....even with the Auto-Tune, dammit. Includes "The Sellout", "The Comeback", "Lately", "Still Hurts" feat Romika, "Stalker", "Real Love" (with Bobby Brown!!!), "On & On" and more.  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Brandon Williams

XII
Soulasis, 2014. Used
A hell of a record from keyboardist and producer Brandon Williams – an artist who may well be the Larry Mizell of the 21st Century! Like Mizell, Brandon's a hell of a musician at the core – really strong and soulful on his work here – but also like Larry, Williams really has a ... CD
Sound Of Everything (UK), 2015. Used

RC & The Gritz just keep getting better and better with each new record – to the point where they've found a way to fully state their own sound, yet work with a sort of generosity that opens up the door for plenty of great collaborations! That's definitely the case here – as the ... CD

Peven Everett

Latest Craze Part 1
Studio Confessions, 2005. Used
Sweet homespun space soul by wunderkind Peven Everett – transcending the neo soul scene into a hugely grooving world of his own! As with the best of his other records, Peven's way of spiraling a fairly basic groove into something HUGE is nothing short of amazing. The tunes here have a ... CD
Universal, 2011. Used

Naive (France), 2010. Used
A boundary skirting set of catchy soul from Asa – a Nigerian-born, Paris-based singer with a sound that's timelessly crafted and easy to love – ranging from rave up pop soul to more delicately layered and stripped down! Asa has just a bit of gravel in her voice, which works great and ... CD

Virgin, 2003. Used
A sparkling debut from Detroit's Dwele – a sweet vocalist in the Donny Hathaway tradition, but with a tight, beat heavy soul sound that glides between 70s soul jazz, mellowed-out Jay Dee synth hop groove, and the natural soul vibe ?uestlove brings to his productions! We first caught wind of ... CD
