Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Rare Groove (Italy), 1960s/1970s. Used
This fab series keeps on grooving – with another great assortment of classic bossa tunes from around the globe! The focus here is not just on Brazilian numbers, but on interpretations of the bossa sound by American and European jazz and easy artists of the late 60s and early 70s. The set's ... CD
Rare Groove (Italy), 1960s. Used
An excellent idea for a bossa nova compilation – one that pulls tunes from groovy soundtracks of the 60s! The work on the set is of both American and European origin – and focuses on the kinds of tunes that often showed up in some of the best soundtrack work by our favorite 60s ... CD
Analog Africa (Germany), 1970s. Used
A mindblowing discovery of music from northern Brazil – not the more familiar sounds that you might know from Rio or Sao Paulo, but much rootsier grooves that were first forged up at the northern city of Belem! The city is a gateway to the Amazon, and also a crossroads too – blessed ... CD

Toquinho

Boca Da Noite
RGE/Som Livre (Brazil), 1974. Used
A fantastic album from Toquinho – one of the best that he cut during the 70s! This album's got a much more stripped-down sound than others – with a soulful mix of vocals and spare acoustic guitar that sounds somewhere between the early 70s work of Baden Powell and Terry Callier – ... CD

Seu Jorge & Almaz

Seu Jorge & Almaz
Now Again, 2010. Used
Incredible music from Seu Jorge – and that's saying a lot, given how much we've loved all of his previous records! This time around, Jorge really knocks it out of the park – by stepping away from some of his tighter styles, and going for a looser, more organic approach that's totally ... CD

Caetano Veloso

Transa
Polygram (Brazil), 1972. Used
Some of the most beautiful work ever recorded by Caetano Veloso – an album that carries on the style of English language lyrics used on his session in exile in 1971, but which also introduces him back to the world of Brazilian popular music! The album's a great transition for Veloso – ... CD
Wrasse, 2005. Used
The sound of global soul in the 21st Century – and an amazing set from the soon-to-be legendary Seu Jorge! Jorge's possibly best known for his appearances in films over the past few years – like The Life Aquatic or City Of God – but take it from us, he's one of the greatest ... CD
Atlantic/Collectables, Late 60s/1970s. Used
3 different Sergio Mendes albums on 2 CDs! In Person At El Matador is a live one by Sergio Mendes, recorded with Wanda De Sah and Rosinha De Valenca, in the years before he formed the Brasil '66 group that recorded on A&M. The record's a nice batch of bossa jazz tracks – and it features ... CD
Rambling (Japan), 2005. Used
... CD
Polygram (Brazil), Late 60s/1970s/Mid 80s. Used
Nice overstuffed "best of" compilation that features work by Veloso that spans from his early Tropicalia years to the stuff he did as a pseudo-new wave artist in the early 80s. 7 cuts alone are from the pivotal year of 1968 – including "Shy Moon", "Lua De Sao ... CD

John Coltrane

Transition
Impulse, 1965. Used
There's no sense of "transition" here – as the album's an incredibly solid one, and stands with John Coltrane's best mid 60s work for Impulse – even if the session wasn't issued by the label until after his early death! The work builds strongly on the Love Supreme vibe – ... CD

Charles Tolliver

Big Band With Love
Blue Note, 2007. Used
A whole new side of Charles Tolliver's talents – a majestic big band album, with Charles' trumpet right out front in the lead! At some level, the album's an extension of Tolliver's larger group projects with Music Inc back in the 70s – but at another level, the feel here is totally ... CD
