Birds & Bees

LP (Item 923666) Interdisc (UK), 1982 — Condition: Very Good

(Cover has light wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Atco, 1967. Near Mint-
King Curtis brings the sound of Memphis up to the New York studios of Atlantic Records – working here in an all-instrumental mode that serves up his own sax-heavy takes on the big 60s hits of Stax Records! The album's maybe a bit telling – given the way that a year later, Atlantic took ... LP, Vinyl record album

James Brown Show
Smash, Late 60s. Very Good+
James Brown plays organ on this one, but it's mostly an effort to showcase various other artists that he was producing at the time, and who traveled with him on the road. Includes cuts by Baby Lloyd, The Jewels, James Crawford, and a young Vicki Anderson. This stuff was cut years before the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Archie Bell & The Drells

Dance Your Troubles Away
TSOP, 1975. Very Good+
Although Archie Bell & The Drells had recorded earlier with Gamble & Huff on Atlantic, this is their first album for the team's own label – and it's a killer! In a way, Archie and group were sort of responsible for getting Gamble & Huff their own famous imprint in the first place ... LP, Vinyl record album
Philadelphia International, 1979. Very Good+
Not as hit-heavy as some of Lou's other albums for Philly International, but a nice batch of mellow jazzy soul tracks – with arrangements by Thom Bell, Bunny Sigler, Dexter Wansel, and others. Some of the tunes get nicely uptempo – hitting the warmer clubby modes that always worked ... LP, Vinyl record album

Paisley Park, 1986. Very Good+ Gatefold
Prince in a grand groove – really hitting a new level of funk with a razor-sharp edge – and even blowing away some of his work on previous records! Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose Greatest Hits
United Artists, Early 70s. Very Good+

Gene Chandler

Here's To Love
Chi Sound/20th Century, 1981. Very Good+
One of Gene Chandler's later albums recorded for Carl Davis' Chi-Sound label. The poor fate of the Chi-Sound label helped this nice little modern soul gem fall into sidebar like oscurity, but the pulls from heavy Chicago soul talent like Tom Tom 84, Sonny Sanders, and Carl Davis, and it does a ... Atlantic Starr

Straight To The Point
A&M, 1980. Very Good+
Atlantic Starr definitely get straight to the point on this set – bursting out strongly with an upbeat groove from the very first note – all produced to perfection by maestro Bobby Eli, in the same manner as some of his other great late 70s work for other artists! The group's a big one ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blue Note, 1963/1976. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A magnificent set of two great Booker Ervin sessions recorded in the 60s, and not released until the mid 70s in this great Blue Note two-fer.
