LP, Vinyl record album

❔

...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Azteca

Azteca
Columbia, 1972. Very Good Gatefold
A crowning moment for the west coast Latin scene in the 70s – a wonderful Bay Area set that brings together some of the best talents working on that scene at the time! Columbia, Mid 50s. Very Good
Classic stuff from Cugie, with a mix of tracks in different rhythms – from mambo, to rhumba, to Afro-Cuban, to guaracha. Titles include "Bim Bam Bum", "Good, Good, Good", "Oye Negra", "Cuba Libre", and "Babalu". LP, Vinyl record album

Ricardo Ray & Bobby Cruz

Ricardo Ray & Bobby Cruz Superpak
United Artists, Mid 60s. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
A great little 2LP set – issued by UA Latino in the early 70s, but compiling some of the best work of the Cruz/Ray team from the 60s! We're not sure what label some of these tunes are from, although we do recognize some of them from Alegre albums of the 60s – and we can say that there's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fania All Stars

Commitment
Fania, 1980. Very Good
A great little back to basics effort from the Fania All Stars – one that shakes off some of the electric and clubby influences that were creeping in during their years at Columbia, and returns the group to a mostly salsa groove! The sound here is bold and bright throughout – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ricardo Ray & Bobby Cruz

1975
Vaya, 1975. Very Good
A surprisingly hard to find record by this popular Latin pair – and one of their sharpest 70s sets, too! Titles include "Mi Amigo Juan", "Richie Ray 1975", "Juan Sebastian Fuga", "Mi Mayoral", and "Jesus En El Jardin". LP, Vinyl record album
Combo, 1984. Very Good

RCA, 1955. Very Good
A great little record – a heck of a lot nicer than Tito's work in the 50s, with a much more hard driving mambo sound, touched by a bit of jazz. The style here's not dissimilar to Tito Puente's work at the time – and titles include "Ay No No No", "A Little Bit Of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Booker T & The MGs

Booker T Set
Stax, 1969. Very Good
Later work from Booker T and crew – an album that always gets lost in the shuffle, but which also includes lots of great moments, and a bit more funk than in earlier years! The rhythm section's loosening up a bit on the set – led by the mighty Al Jackson, and working past that tight ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stylistics

Rockin' Roll Baby
Avco, 1973. Very Good
The third album by The Stylistics – and a set that's still very much in the high-harmony territory of their first two classics! Thom Bell's still very firmly on deck this time around – arranging, producing, and writing a good deal of the material too – and the Sigma Sound ... LP, Vinyl record album
