Mandy Patinkin

LP (Item 922444) CBS, 1989 — Condition: Sealed

...

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sammy Davis, Jr.

That's All!
Reprise, 1966. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
The greatest entertainer ever? We think so – and this 2LP set offers Sammy D in the best possible way to get him: live, and in the very familiar turf of the Sands Hotel. This live album, and it's counterpart (At The Cocoanut Grove, also on Reprise) are, in our opinion, Sammy's best ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, 1966. Very Good+
Broadway material – but given the Nancy Wilson twist – and sung in a mode that's a lot more soulful than other records of its type! Nancy's at her strong early Capitol best here – working with arranger Sid Feller in a set of tunes that get some nice syncopation and jazzy ... LP, Vinyl record album

Della Reese

Black Is Beautiful
Avco, Early 70s. Very Good+ Gatefold
A pretty darn hip album from Della Reese – certainly her funkiest, with a strong mixture of soul and jazz that reminds us a lot of some of the Esther Philips albums on Kudu. Arrangements are by Peter Myers and Bobby Bryant, with "sweetening arrangements" by Sammy Lowe, who we ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dinah Washington

Tears & Laughter
Mercury, Early 60s. Very Good
A pretty groovy little album from Dinah Washington – at first glance a set of older standards, but at second glance a date that features some wonderfully swinging arrangements from Quincy Jones! The Q really helps Dinah break from the usual mode here – providing here with an upbeat, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nina Simone

Emergency Ward!
RCA, 1972. Very Good
A great little album cut by Nina Simone during the time she was working with Weldon Irvine – a live album that really has the lady stretching out, and showing off all the cool, complicated grooves she brought to a concert setting! Weldon did the arrangements, and they've got a very righteous ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sarah Vaughan & Billy Eckstine

Sing The Best Of Irving Berlin
EmArcy, 1957. Very Good
A great album that pairs these two great singers together for some of Berlin's popular tunes. They're accompanied by a full orchestra and the singers compliment each other nicely especially where Vaughan can match Eckstine's low tones. The tracks include "Isn't This A Lovely Day", "Al ... Gloria Lynne

I'm Glad There Is You
Everest, 1960. Very Good
One of Gloria's most jazz-oriented albums – featuring small combo backing from the Earl May trio, with Herman Foster on piano, Grasella Oliphant on drums, and May on bass. Tracks are sweetly done, and titles include "Stella By Starlight", "All Night Long", "Young ... LP, Vinyl record album

Reuben Wilson

Cisco Kid
Groove Merchant, 1974. Very Good+
One of the best 70s albums by this funky organ player – quite different than his work for Blue Note, with a messier funkier edge that's very nice! Reuben Wilson's working with an all-hip lineup, with players who include Melvin Sparks on guitar, Garnett Brown on trombone, Bob Cranshaw on bass ... LP, Vinyl record album

Isaac Hayes

New Horizon
Polydor, 1977. Very Good+
Great later work by Isaac Hayes – working here in a post-Stax, post-ABC mode that has him forging a smooth soul sound that's really great! The album's not disco, but more of an extension of Ike's baroque approach to arranging – with subtle use of strings and keyboards, in a real Philly ... LP, Vinyl record album
