Robi Botos — Old Soul ... CD 9.99

Robi Botos is a keyboardist with a nice sense of space – one that makes for an inherent sense of groove in his music, even when things are mellow! Robi's not exactly a funk musician, but the record has plenty of currents of that mode – as his own keyboards are blended strongly with the snapping drums of Larnell Lewis and well-timed bass of Mike Downes – then topped off with some mighty nice work on tenor by Seamus Blake! We're not used to hearing Blake in such a setting, which really brings out some of his more soulful elements – and the tenor is a great sharp-edged contrast to some of Botos' warmer lines on piano and keyboards. The set also features guest work from Lionel Loueke's guitar on one track – and titles include "Calhoun Square", "Budapest", "Old Soul", "Days Of Wine & Roses", "Praise", "Hope", and "Diamond".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Ropeadope, 2019. Used

Eddie Henderson

Sunburst
Blue Note, 1975. Used
Funky fusion doesn't get any funkier than this – and the album's one of the greatest 70s recordings by jazz funk trumpeter Eddie Henderson! The album's got a harder edge than a lot of Eddie's other records of the decade – razor sharp rhythms crackling away underneath a sublime space-hea ... CD

Lee Morgan

Gigolo
Blue Note, 1965. Used
Tremendous work by Lee Morgan – easily one of his greatest albums, and a soaring session of modal energy that easily rivals the best work of the Impulse era! The album's got a slightly different feel than usual for Blue Note – a sense of freedom, joy, and soaring energy that's totally ... CD
Blue Note, 1973. Used
A real watershed album from Horace Silver – a record that has him stepping strongly into the 70s – but with a rich new groove that's different both from his 60s work, and from the heavy politics of his United States series too! The album has Horace picking up a slightly electric sound, ... CD

Wonderful stuff – and one of our favorite-ever Marvin Gaye albums! This is the legendary two-record set that Marvin wrote and recorded as an alimony payment to his ex-wife Anna Gordy (the story's pretty long, and we won't get into it here – suffice it to say that when stars get a ... CD
