Sound Of Love

LP (Item 921830) Epic, Late 60s — Condition: Very Good

(Mono pressing with deep groove. Cover has light wear and some seam splitting.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Bobbi Humphrey

Freestyle
Epic, 1978. Very Good
Some of Bobbi Humphrey's greatest work of the post-Blue Note years – an album that's filled with soulful fusion tunes throughout, all with a great focus on her funky flute! Bobbi also sings a bit on the set, but in a way that's pretty darn great – wonderfully sweet at times, with a bit ... LP, Vinyl record album

George Duke

Dream On
Epic, 1982. Near Mint-
Solid 80s grooving from George Duke – a really tightly-crafted set, done in the sweet mix of jazz and soul that he virtually helped to invent during the 70s! There's a gentle soulfulness to the record that we really like – a quality that's surprising, given the date, and the fact that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lee Ritenour

Captain Fingers
Epic, 1977. Near Mint-
Smooth and funky fusion from Lee Ritenour – top-shelf all the way, and handled with a really soulful groove, thanks to production from the legendary Skip Drinkwater! Lee's all over the top of the guitar in true "Captain Fingers" style, and Skip makes sure he's got plenty going on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stanley Clarke

Hideaway
Epic, 1986. Near Mint-
Hideaway makes a move towards more delicate synth soul for Clarke – who assembles an impressive guest list that includes Stanley Jordan, Herbie Hancock and Stewart Copeland. Titles include a cover of Stevie Wonder's "Overjoyed", plus "My Love, Her Inspiration", "Where ... LP, Vinyl record album

George Duke

Don't Let Go
Epic, 1978. Very Good
A sweet bit of modern funk from George Duke – working here in a mode that's definitely tighter and more soul-based than his trippier albums of the early 70s – but also in a groove that's pretty darn sweet! George wonderfully blends together his jazz roots and some of the wider soul ... LP, Vinyl record album
Epic, Early 60s. Near Mint-
Excellent early work from pianist Mike Wofford – a player who'd show up more strongly in the 70s, but who's already in great form here in this early 60s session! The album's quite unique – not the mainstream piano trio material that you'd expect from a major label at the time, and more ... LP, Vinyl record album

Johnny Coles

Warm Sound
Epic, 1961. Very Good+
One of the few albums ever cut as a leader by trumpeter Johnny Coles – a player who's probably best known to the world for his work with Charles Mingus, or for his other 60s session on Blue Note! This album's quite different than both of those aspects of Johnny's career – and has him ... LP, Vinyl record album

Panama Francis

Exploding Drums!
Epic, Early 60s. Near Mint-
An album of drum-heavy tracks recorded by drummer Panama Francis – who at this point could boast a long career working with jazz luminaries like Duke Ellington, Lucky Millinder, and Cab Calloway. The set's got Francis using his drums to cook up a rock-like beat on a set of instrumentals. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Les McCann

Hustle To Survive
Atlantic, 1975. Sealed
Sweet funky soul from Les McCann – one of the best of his 70s albums that bring in a lot of vocals with the keyboards – and served up in some tight tunes that really pack a nice sort of punch! The album doesn't have the long jammers of some of McCann's other records from the time ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cannonball Adderley

Lovers
Fantasy, 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold
Late stuff by Cannonball, with a dope spacey electric sound, no doubt due to some very nice keyboards on the session by George Duke. The album's a bit mellower than some of the others on Fantasy, but it makes up for that with a warm snaking mellow funk groove. Brother Nat gives a helping hand on ... LP, Vinyl record album
