Flowing Voices Of The Johnny Mann Singers

LP (Item 921490) Liberty, 1966 — Condition: Sealed

(Shrinkwrap has a small sticker.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

About The Blues
Liberty, Late 50s. Near Mint-
Hip early work from Julie London – with full jazz orchestra backing by Russ Garcia, whose soundscapes are perfect for that dreamy style of singing she was using at the time – a blend of the sublime and sad, floating along with almost effortless ease, but hiding a huge wellspring of ... Julie London

Love Letters
Liberty, 1962. Very Good
A set that has Julie London still working in the breathy and mellow style of her late 50s classics – with very spare backings that really let Julie's vocals take center stage, and often a nice guitar line in the front of the mix, picking its way through the tunes right behind Julie's voice! ... Liberty, 1963. Very Good
A nice, mature effort from Julie London – done with a great mix of 60s pop modes and some of the breathier styles of Julie's earlier years – often served up with backings from Ernie Freeman that have a bit of electric bass at the bottom, which helps to step the tunes along with a subtle ... Ethel Azama

Cool Heat
Liberty, Early 60s. Very Good+
An album of straight jazz vocals from Hawaiian singer Ethel Azama – an artist who's perhaps better known for her more exotic Liberty album with Martin Denny, but who's working here in a much straighter mode with backings from the great Marty Paich! Paich is at the height of his powers here ... LP, Vinyl record album

London By Night
Liberty, 1959. Very Good-
Breathy vocals from the great Julie London – an album recorded early in her years on Liberty Records, but with a slightly full sound overall! Love On The Rocks
Liberty, 1963. Very Good+

Liberty, 1969. Very Good
Like Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66? Then you'll love The Carnival! The title sounds a bit ambitious, but the album's actually a great intimate date from Carmen McRae – a beautifully-recorded small combo performance – caught live at Donte's in LA, with a sound that hearkens back to some of Carmen's best work of the 50s! The format is spare and simple ... LP, Vinyl record album
